Background: Aysa's parents were what was called hedge-witches. They made their livelihood by making medicines and poultices. They rarely made open uses of their small magics, preferring to put their power into their medicines. The village they lived in were all happy that the Renelals lived there, often going to them for help. Mala and Brel did use some of their magics for festivals and parties, mostly for beautiful, small gifts and wondrous fireworks.
When Aysa was born, the town rejoiced; the Renelals had been without children for a long time. The women knew of Mala's yearning for a baby. As Aysa grew, she puzzled the village. She didn't particularly look like any of her parents, who had dark hair and green eyes. Aysa learned quickly and only needed to be shown something once to replicate it. When she wasn't following her parents around, learning herblore and magiclore, she stayed in the village and watched the crafters working. She loved the blacksmith the most, often sitting mesmerized by the rhythmic banging of the hammer. Aysa grew strong helping the apprentices pump the bellows and even took a turn at the hammer. Her other favorite crafter to watch was the seamstress, Kloe. Aysa loved to watch the woman at her loom, creating rugs, blankets, and clothes. And even though she watched devotedly, Aysa was never able to figure out how Kloe made the handsome cloths.
When Aysa turned eleven, she started to show the signs of having magic of her own. When walking in the woods with her parents, Aysa would lead them to new patches of herbs that her parents wanted to find. Also, she called animals to her hand and talked with them in haltingly in their language. Her parents thrilled at these signs and started to teach her what they knew. Aysa learned the names and uses of the plants quickly, hoping to be able to help the village as her parents had. Soon, Aysa started being able to move things around simply by looking at them and willing them to be somewhere else. Mala and Brel tried to help her hone these abilities, but didn't really understand. They still loved their daughter, but couldn't really understand her passion for learning.
Around Aysa's eighteenth birthday, her parents were looking for new plants on a hill a few miles from the village. It had rained recently, and the hill was slippery. A mudslide started and buried Brel and Mala quickly. They died shortly afterward. Aysa felt something wrong and found some of her friends. They followed her to the hill and found the path of the mudslide. Aysa started digging, hoping against hope to find her parents alive. She did find them, about five feet down, but both were dead. Aysa stopped digging and one of her friends led her back, not trusting her to find her way in her shock.
Brel and Mala were dug out by the rest of the village and given a funeral. They were buried outside the cottage, now Aysa's. After getting over her shock and grief, Aysa tried to continue her parents' role in the village, but the pain was too much. When a dragon landed outside the village, Aysa was the first to run to it. The dragonrider saw her and said, "You are the one my dragon felt. Would you like to be a candidate at Dragonhope weyr?" Aysa nodded her head eagerly and ran back to pack. She quickly explained to the rest of the villagers that she was leaving and left the village in the hands of Karen. Karen had been training under Aysa, learning as much of the herblore as she could. Aysa went to Dragonhope happily, thankful to get away from all the memories. She did check back at the village, visiting when she could. Aysa never stayed, though, knowing her true home was Dragonhope now.
Personality: Aysa is very serious, not making jokes that often. She has a good sense of humor, just prefers not to use it. She doesn't like puns, which makes her friendship with Bri'onie even stranger. She enjoys using her magic, helping plants grow and helping her reach things she otherwise wouldn't be able to, but uses it sparingly. She prefers to learn and succeed using her own abilities. Aysa helps around the weyr, cooking and helping teaching. She learned the drills for the younger riders and helped the Weyrlingmaster teach. Her friends helped her work through the final grief she had over her parents her death and forge new memories. Aysa is very passionate about learning and getting a dragon. She hopes to have a great friend and unbreakable bond.
