Arthurian Legends

It is possible that King Arthur was a real person, a Welsh cheiftain who lived about 500 C.E. Welsh writers kept his story alive until the 12th century when Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote History of the Kings of Britian, which established Arthur in European culture. From then on the story of King Arthur and his knights spread. The primary source of Arthurian legend is the medieval romance, a digressive literary from in which knights, ladies, evil-doers, magic, miracles, combats, tournaments, and quest provide the main attractions. King Arthur and his knights became the embodiment of the chivalric code.
