Chapter 14: A Possible Cure

Back on board the ship, there was a new problem to solve: Can the ones infected with the Reversion Virus be cured? The only thing that was known was that humans have an antibody for it. If we could only find a way to utilize it to formulate a cure.

"Take my blood to create the cure." John concluded. "I created the Animen Project, so it would be fitting to find a cure within my blood."

"That's out of the question." I argued. "I know you want to help, but this is not the way."

"No, it has to be this way," John protested. "I was the one who caused this mess, so I have to clean it up. I won't take 'no' for an answer."

"Fine," I sighed, "but I must warn you, you may not survive; it's going to require a lot of blood."

"If that's the price, I'll gladly pay it."

I took John to the med room, it had the instruments needed for this objective. He layed down on the restaining bed and I straped him down. I asked him if he was ready; he didn't hesitate with his answer - he was ready. I drug over the blood extractor and stuck one needle into his elbow and the second in his shoulder. With both needles in place, blood began to drain into the capsule.

While the machine was doing it's job, I left; I didn't want to watch John die. I watched the clock tick away the hours. After watching for six hours, I returned to the med room. The horrible task was done; we had the blood needed and John was long dead. We took his body, loaded it into an empty torpedo and fired it onto Io where he shall remain.

I returned to the med room and removed the blood filled capsule. I cover the opening with a cork and carefully grabbed several long needles. I jabbed them one-by-one into the cork and began to draw blood into the viles. Once filled to the necessary volume, I sweezed the blood into the infected crew. From then, I will have to wait to see if it worked.

Weeks quickly went by until it added up to six months. The possible cure wasn't there. John gave up his live for nothing. All hope for a cure seemed to vanished like a setting sun.

I went to my sleeping quarters and began to search for a demension that held the answer to the question: Is there a cure? I ran into a picture from the internet that I printed for safekeeping. In the relm of the Road Rovers, they had a device known as a Transdogmafier. It may work, in this case as a cure. It's a risk, but it's there only chance.
