A squadron of V 32 ghosts appear out of no where and in a fury of laser blasts downed a smal section of the Enterprise's shields, since they had already been weakened by the wormhole.
" Shields are mostly holding sir," Worf reported from behind the tactical station. " They apperar to be using some kind of high powered laser weapons. "
" Shield status?" Riker yelled out under the fury of the lasers hitting their shields.
" Shields at 62%. We were severely weakened by the strain of the wormhole. "
" Put the attackers on main viewer Mr. Worf ," Picard ordered, a nervous sweat breaking out on his forehead. The main viewer suddenly showed images of spacecraft with a circular fusealage and twin solar panels on each side, and they moved fast, firing their twin laser cannons with pinpoint accuracy.
New spacecraft appeared behind them, these ones bigger and slower, with two conected circular fusealages and two curved solar panels. Suddenly, the whole crew on the bridge was knocked of balance as a powerful explosion from a heavy bomb or missile hit the shields of the Enterprise, damaging it slightly.
" Shields down to 60% ," Worf reported.
" Get us out of here, Mr. Data. Warp 4 ," Picard said, holding on to his command chair, as if bracing himself for another impact.
" We are too close to the planet sir. Bringing us out of planet's gravity..... Sir, picking up a new ship on sensors, coming from the far side of the planet," Data said. " Putting it on main viewer."
The main viewer displayed a massive triangular shaped starship, with a ruggedness that can only be from combat. Forty gun emplacements brissled from its armour as it loomed menacingly near the Enterprise.
" Look the size of that thing..." Riker said softly.
Captian Jason Saiyun stood on the bridge of the Imperial Star Destroyer Archangel. Around him, his crew worked frantically to identify the ship that htey had beenordered to be captured.
" Commander Siera, load five shuttles with stormtroopers and have them ready to depart in five minutes," Saiyun said to his first officer as he looked upon the strange ship from the observation windows of the bridge.
" Sir, the alien ship's shields are quite strong, and are withstanding the assault from our TIE bombers. I get no weapon reading or shield status. Probally they use different weapons and shields," a tactical officer reported from the lower deck of the bridge.
Saiyun adjusted his dull grey Imperial uniform as he sat back down on his command chair.
Let's see if they can withstand our turbolasers, he thought.
" Move to intercept, I don't want them to get away. Power up all turbolaser batteries and load missile tubes," he ordered. " This is gonna be a quick kill."
The Archangel lurched foreward and moved to engage the Enterprise.
Commander Graeme Mask maneuvered his TIE advanced to face the alien ship.
" Alpha 9, Alpha 4, Delta 7, Gamma 8, follow me in arrow attack formation. We're gonna go for those big glowing cylinders at the back of the alien ship. I think they might be the engines," Mask said over the COM system linking all the fighters of the fleet together. " We can't let them get away or Vader will have our asses for dinner."
The five TIE advanced flew in a single file, heading for the Enterprise's warp nacelles. Suddenly a rapid firing orange bean lanced out from the bottom of the Enterprise's saucer section, destroying a few TIEs while most of them managed to take evasive maneuvers.
" Stay in formation! " Mask said, watching other tie bombers being shot out of the sky. " We just need one good shot..... "
" I have torpedo lock," said Liutenant Crastro, who was codenamed Alpha 9.
" Break formation and fire at will ," Mask ordered.
The five TIE advanced broke their straight line formation and fired their heavy T-33 plasma torpedos. The ties turned away sharply to avoid the Enterprise's rapid firing phasers, as their torpedos hit their target and slammed on to the shields of the federation starship. A massive explosion rocked the ship, sending it reeling slightly off coarse.
Mask turned his starfighter to face the Enterprise, and saw a Star Destroyer firing full turbolasers at it. As the emerald green tubolasers impacted on the shields, the federation starship returned fire with their phasers and photon torpedos.
" Keep firing full phasers Mr. Worf ," Picard said. " I want to keep them busy before we go into warp."
" Sir, the warp engines had taken sufficent damage during the fighter attack. We will need several minutes before we can go into warp ," Data reported.
" Then we should try to stay alive ," Riker said calmly. " Mr.Worf, prepare a spread of quantum torpedos, and target the warship's main power source. Fire at will." Another explosion ripped through the Enterprise, causing a science station from behind Worf to explode.
" Set phasers to 10% power and target the fighter sized craft. They seem to be causing considerable damage," Picard ordered.
Riker, appearing exited, jumped up from his seat. " Jean Luc." He said, 'I have an idea that just might buy us the time we need!"
Picard responded, "Yes number one, what is this idea?"
Riker exclaimed, "Sir, remember how the Enterprise outsmarted the Borg?! We should separate the saucer section in order to buy us time, that way they will have two tagets to fire at instead of one."
Picard fell silent for a moment, contemplating this idea, then responded, "Make it so!"
" Keep firing full turbolasers, I don't want them to escape," Saiyun said, holding on to the arm of his captian's chair as the Star Destroyer trembled from the quantum torpedo assault. " Damage?"
" Minimal sir," commander Katana from tactical said. " Turbolasers nine and twenty five are destroyed and missile tube six is inoperatable. Power lost on section 4-E and 6-G."
" Load all concussion missile tubes, and target their main weapon. Fire at will." Saiyun felt a slight jolt as the nine missiles burst out of the launching tubes, accelerating quickly to meet the Enterprise's main photon and quantum torpedo launcher.
" Sir, I'm getting some energy surges coming from the alien ship. Something mechanical is being activated inside of the target," Katana said. Simataneously, the concussion missiles hit the shields of the Enterprise, creating a brilliant red and yellow explosion.
" Reload missile tubes and prepare to launch again."
" Sir, the enemy starship is separating into two sections, and are apparently moving in opposite directions."
" I don't care if it splits down to ten pieces. If these idiots think they're doing anything to confuse us, they are dammed wrong. Arm ion cannon and fire shots into the big saucer like section, but keep firing at the smaller section with turbolasers," Saiyun said.
" Sir, six Imperial class Star Destroyers have arrived for backup."
" I don't think we'll need it" snapped Saiyun.
