My dad bred and raised me on the Beatles when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper. I didn't know why I liked them then, but I knew they were catchy and I like the words. Now, older and therefore with a different and higher appreciation for music, I know why. The Beatles progressed tremendously throughout their career, and reached new heights with each album, mostly after Rubber Soul. My favorite albums change with my mood, so I won't put one set one here, but I am partial to the White Album and Abbey Road, as well as Sgt. Pepper's . . . see, told you I couldn't pick!
Catherine Wheel is a lesser known band that is extremely underrated. Which in a way is good because then all these poseur alternative geeks wouldn't be listening to it and it makes them that much more special that their fans aren't as widespread. They have five albums out, one of them previously unreleased tracks with a cover of "Wish You Were Here" (Pink Floyd, another great band) which is actually very comendable. I like them all, so don't ask me to choose, but if you're new to the band and want to check them out, get Happy Days, their third release.
I tenderly implore you all to boycott Britney Spears, Backdoor Boys, 'N Stink, and anything labeled "Pop" music. Please bring back the days of musicians writing their own music, most of them being beauty-challenged and knowing that the only way to get laid is to be a rock star. Everything's a business, isn't it ...
