Pug is well known to readers of Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar
Saga and also to players of the excellent Betrayal At Krondor.
set in
Feist's Midkemia.
Pug might have suited at least two of the categories I divided wizards into:
He is both the adventuring wizard - pulled into the life of a
Magician's apprentice mostly by fate, and also his continued
advancement in the field of magic - brought about by his capture
by the Tsurani during the Rift War and his training as a Great One by their Assembly - all are
completely out of his hands as he drifts Through what fate (with help from Macros The Black)
prepared for him.
However, having finished his studies and the missions
allotted him in the Rift War, Pug seems to drift into the Wizard
Sage category. Although he enters it young he is wise and
powerful enough to advise and guide.
At the closing of the Rift War saga Pug is a sorcerer - the only
one, since Macros leaves Midkemia, to know the true nature of magic and have the power to wield most aspects of it if not all.
