Flight Control

One of the distinct characteristics of the Ranger class is the flat flight deck between the two nacelles. The entire deck may be used to support fighters but the advantage of the retracting airlocks would be lost.

The fight deck is sectioned off into twenty five landing pads. Each of these pads is equipped with a retracting airlock with an extending docking port in the forward port corner. Each of these pads are thirty feet by thirty feet. They are arranged in five rows of five pads. The rows are numbered one through five from forward ta aft, and the pads in each row are numbered one through five from port to starboard. One of the drawbacks of the design of the Ranger Class is that when rows four are five are occupied then the ship can not break Warp Five without causing the fighters in the aft two rows damage.

The current fighter complement of the USS Ranger the Eagle Squadron. The squadron is composed of ten battle ready Peregrine Class fighters, five battle ready Raider Class, two auxiliary Peregrine Class Fighters, and auxiliary Runabout. Eagle squadron has been divided into four squads, Red, Blue, Black, and White Squads. For now each of the fighters is designated by is squad name and a number. In the future some of the fighters also have names. Red One is the command fighter.

Both Red and Blue Squads are composed of five of the battle ready Peregrines. The primary role of this squad is to mount an assault against enemy ships. These are the toughest fighters in Eagle Squadron, with the best pilots. Individually each squad would make a highly effective fast attack group, however, combined they make a fearsome heavy assault team.

Black Squad takes in the five older Raider Class Fighters. Their goal is to protect the larger, slower Ranger from the assaults of small nimble craft such as other fighters. While the Ranger Class has an impressive array of weaponry Black Squad makes an excellent backup group.

Finally, White Squad is made up of the remaining three auxiliary craft. While these craft have all the weapon capabilities of their class they are the reserve squad. This is the squad which would mount the rescue and salvage operations. However, they will still be sent into battle if warranted.
