She asked me how I knew.

I gave a polite answer.

A logical question had I not melded with both.

The forced meld could not change the basic nature of a person, could not take someone and make them a wanton murderer. For all the commander’s illegal activities I never saw unnecessary violence. More importantly though, even under Teero’s influence I was aware of the commander’s strong feelings for the captain.

And the captain? Even though the meld was to assist me, I heard her thoughts about him also.

So she knew the true answer.

I will keep their secret.
