Golf del Sur is in south Tenerife. It’s 10 mins from the airport and although very near, the aeroplanes didn’t spoil our holiday at all. Golf del Sur is an area of golf resorts with many restaurants and small shops. It’s a quiet area to stay in but has great access to the bigger towns of Tenerife such as Playa del las Americas and Los Cristianos which are only 15mins via the motorway.

Our apartment was at Duquesa del Mar, a small area of apartments centred around a shared swimming pool, Jacuzzi and baby pool. There are many restaurants within walking distance along the sea front and a supermarket nearby.

The apartment had everything two adults and a one and a half year old toddler could need. The place is spacious with a big balcony and plenty of room inside and out for our little one to run around safely.

It had two bedrooms one double and a smaller with two single beds. Two bathrooms, one with bath and one with a shower. And everything you need literary in between; cooker and hob, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, TV, stereo, DVD player. There wasn’t a thing missing.

Sites Visited

El Teide
El TeideEl Teide is the volcano in the centre of Tenerife. It’s a very long journey up to the National Park but one that is worth the car journey. As you travel up you journey through the clouds to amazing views at the top. It’s great to watch the landscape change on the way up; it gets very green before it goes dry again. It almost looks like a lunar landscape.

There is a tourist information with shop and further up the road there is a café at the foot of the volcano. You can also ride the cable cars so that you can reach the top. Unfortunately the day we went it was too windy to go up and the cable cars weren’t running. The views are still amazing from the bottom of the volcano. I can only imagine how wonderful they are at the top.

Loro Parque
Tigers at Loro ParqueLoro Parque is the island’s biggest attraction in Puerto de la Cruz. It’s basically a zoo with parrots, gorillas, tigers, alligators, sharks, dolphins and killer whales. It’s a really good day out with lots of shows to see. The park is very clean and tidy and there are places to eat there too. We made the mistake of going up to Puerto de la Crutz on the western side of the island , coming back we took the eastern side via Santa Cruz which shaved an hour off our journey time.

Beaches

Beach at Los CristianosWe first visited a beach called Playa de la Tejita just after Los Abrigos. Parking was free, and it’s a lovely clean beach where you can hire parasols and sunbeds. It’s also deserted! It was fine for a brief visit the beach or just a quiet stroll. But if you want a livelier place then the main beach by the port in Los Cristianos is the place to go. It has a restaurant on the beach, parasols and sunbeds to hire. It’s within walking distance to the shops and other restaurants, and full of people. The sand is slightly better too. Tenerife is known for it’s dark sand but here it’s more golden.

Eating Out

We ate in most of the time as we have a little one, but we did sample some of the local restaurants. There is a very nice Japansese/Chinese restaurant along the sea front called Tapanaki. There are also many other types, Italian, Spanish and sea food restaurants which we didn’t get chance to sample.

If you are eating in, there are quite a few restaurants that also do takeaways. And for shopping there is a huge supermarket at the entrance to Golf del Sur called Mercadonna, which is a lot cheaper than the local supermarket. The only thing is that for some reason we couldn’t find fresh milk there. up

Summary

Resort at nightWe wanted a holiday with beaches and a bit of sun and we got that with Tenerife. We weren’t looking for a place with lots of sight-seeing and I don’t think you could fill a week in Tenerife with sight-seeing. Although the two places we went to, El Teide and Loro Parque are really good places to go.

The apartment we stayed in was just perfect, so well looked after and just right for what we needed. I certainly recommend these apartments if you want a quiet stay in southern Tenerife.

We did hire a car, which we needed to get to the beaches and around the Island. But don’t let the maps fool you, although the shorter routes look the quickest, they are very twisty and slow. Stick the motorway wherever you can, it’s so much quicker.

It’s a nice island, it didn’t have the character unlike some other places we have been to. But for the time of the year we went where the weather wasn’t so warm in the rest of Europe, it’s a very lovely place to go

There is loads of information on Tenerife here. From food to places to see, to where to stay and what you can expect of the weather when you are there.

EuroSol.com

Not as good or as easy to use as Canaries-live.com but it still worth a look for the volume of information on Tenerife. It covers the beaches, medical information and has recipes.
