PALS

You enter a warm cavern, the social area for the horde. The room is lined with furs for extra coziness. Inside, many other vermin lay about relaxing. You notice one group sitting around, talking. Soon you realize that they are telling a story. Wanting to join in, you sit down beside them, and listen as the tale unfolds, maybe to contribute a verse of your own.

Rules: PALS stands for Pass ALong Story, and basicly, one person submits a chapter, then another person submits another chapter, and and so on until the story is completed. Most PALS involve people writing a long section, but this one, you just right a chapter when you feel like it, anything from a short to a long chapter. I'm am doing it this way because many times in PALS no one ever writes their chapter, and people have to wait forever for their turn. This way, also, there can be many more chapters, and one person could do four, five, or even six sections. You will be given credits based on how long the chapter is, and how much I like it. The only problem with this method is when two people turn in something for the same chapter. If this happens, I will post the one I like more, but every submition will get credits. I apologise if anyone is upset that their story is not posted, but I can't think of a better way to do this. If you have an idea, please tell me! The only rules are you may not kill off characters with out my permission, or have one of the characters use "Magic" powers. You may not add beast in this club into the story, besides me and Graylect. Anyways, our first PALS is as follows....

Map to Mossflower
Tarak, a young weasel, and Spearhide, his companion, a weasel like himself, were exploring the back caverns of Talenrawn. Both beast were young, and had only fought a few skirmishes in there short lives. As Talenrawn was in a time of monotany, the two were sent to explore the tunnels, and see if anything useful could be found. Both weasels despised each other, however, and as the endless dark continued, they came closer and closer to all out hatred. Despite this, it was an uneventful day, and the pair had only found a few adder skeletons, which they had taken the fangs from. The smaller ones were too brittle to use as any type of weapon, but were used to write with by the educated beasts. Spearhide was brushing one hand along the wall, her other holding the torch. Suddenly her paw came onto nothingness. "I found another tunnel, maggot brains. I say we take it!" Tarak snorted. "Do'wachas likes, rat-eyes." But Spearhide didn't hear him as she slipped down the tunnel entrance. Tarak squinshed his snout in anger, but followed after. Instead of immediately catching up with Spearhide as he though the would, he found himself traveling a long path, getting angrier by the step. He was about to yell, when another step took him into a giant cavern, covered in a luminescent moss. Ad in the middle of the cavern were.... skeletons? He rushed forward, and found Spearhide inspecting the three seperate bone piles, foxes by the look of the skulls. Crushed ribs and twin punture wounds showed the trio's cause of death- adders. Reaching her paw out, Spearhide pulled a long dagger from the rotting garment of the largest fox, and quite a large fox he had been. Studying the dagger, Spearhide made out 'Balefur.' "Musta been 'is name, green-nose." She snorted, and reached to search for more in the pockets. She came up with two sheets of paper. She unfolded them, but before she could begin to read, Tarak snatched the papers from her. "Eh' says, 'Map tah' sea rats treasure.' Lookie at it... the treasure supposedly was in these here caverns. Somebeast name Nightshade wrote it out. Well, if I had tah' make uh guess, I'd say these chappies were tricked into coming to there death." Carefully, Tarak began to read the second paper. "Map to great tresure of South Mossflower." Spearhide gasped. A map to hidden treasure....

Chapter Two

(Ack!!!! My fears came true! Two submitions came before I could post up the last one. So, I sort of mixed the two together. The first part was submitted by Wrath, the Second by Slashback.) Meanwhile, Agryc lounged on a wolverine fur in the main cavern, bad-temperedly flicking damsons at Graylect. "Where have those two incompetant gabjaws gotten to? They've been "exploring" for hours. They were supposed to scout around the cave and follow those tracks. Wrath!!" The wildcat bowed his head and kneeled before the queen. "Yes, my liege?" "Send out some other scouts to look at those tracks. Somebeast who won't be caught by the claws of the enemy." "As you wish, my Queen." Minutes later, a fox called Brushpoison and a weasel called Reekjaw headed out.~~~~~~Part2~~~~ Meanwhile, already at the cavemouth, several large, older, and throughly bored vermin awaited outside of the tunnel immpatiently. They had already returned fro their patrols in the caverns. One of them had even gone to tell the leaders of the duo's tardines. Spearhide and Tarak were taking too long to look. They should have been out of the tunnel already. A large ferret, by the name of Blackblade, called out to the rest of the vermin laying about. "Them weasels are takin too longs! I'm goin in theres to find out why!" yelled out Blackblade. Spearhide and Tarak heard the bossy ferret shout out, and feared that the big ferret would take away their map and search for the treasure himself. What would they do? They had no pockets in their tattered clothing to hide the fragile parchment, and their paws would be full carrying the adder fangs that they had gathered. "Greats! What are we goin ter do nows?" asked Spearhide. "I knows," whispered Tarak, for Blackblade was coming closer and closer. "We hides it here and comes back fer it, maggot ears." "Hump!" said Spearhide in protest. "What if you comes back with out me and steals the map? I ain't goin ter do that!" Tarak, mumbled angrily. "Well, 'tis better than lettin 'ol bossy boots gettin it, rights?" Spearhide had to agree with him. Blackblade the ferret was a strong and big and bossy ferret, but he was also a greedy one too. If he ever got his grubby stinking paws on the map, he would never split the treasure with nobeast. Tarak quickly grabbed the map and hid it under a rock, near the skeletons. They moved in another dicertion so that Blackblade would never see the skeletons, and most importantly, the map. They were then pushed roughly out by Blackblade and his spear. "So," inquired Blackblade, "what did yer find downs there in thatmusty lot?" Spearhide chose her word carefully. "Er...umm...we founds some adder fangs fer writin and fer making some weapons with 'em." Tarak, quickly nodded in agreement. The two young weasels looked at each other, not trusting each other, but having to. Then they turned their attention to when they were going to take the map when the other wasn't there. "Maybe at night," said Tarak to himself. "Best times would be at night, probably," thought Spearhide to herself, grinning on the inside.

Chapter Three

That night, the Tarak lie with his eyes wide open, waiting for a good moment. When the moon went behind a cloud, he silently rose from his sleeping mat. Hastily he fluffed the dingy cloth to look roughly like a sleeping form and slipped into the night. Spearhide carefully stuck her head around a rocky outcrop outsidethe caves. Rats!! Somebeast else is up!! Too late to turn back now, though, She slid around the corner of rock, eyes wide and paws quivering with anticipation. Without stirring the smallest piece of dirt, she crept into the cave. Past sentries, guards, and Graylect himself. But the queen was nowhere to be seen. Too excited to notice, she slowly edged along the wall. It seemed to take an eternity. Finally, she was at the mouth of the tunnels. Quickly, Spearhide ran along the corridor, trying desperately to remember the way. Tarak loped along a dark corridor, dark creatures of his imagination groping at him from the walls. He saw another up ahead, and blinked his eyes to rid himself of the phantom.Thwack!! The two weasels sat, rubbing at their heads. "Yew tried to come without me!! Ye no good traitor!!" "And what are you doin', goin' fer a liddle walk?" They both just sat and glared. "Well, we came this far, I guess we may as well keep goin'. Now's as good as ever,"grumbled Tarak. "Yeh, get off your mangy bottom and let's go. Yew remember th'way, y'dingy ol' daft duck?" replied Spearhide. Tarak bit his lip and shook his head. Spearhide stood up and dusted herself off. They both looked around. "So, we lost?" Tarak questioned. "Yup, guess so." sighed Spearhide. As the pair tried to find their bearings, a pair of eyes watched them. Just watched. Never even blinking.

Chapter Four

As Spearhide and Tarack blundered aimlessly through the tunnels. A Sentrey walked down past the rows of sleeping soliders. As he passed where Spearhide and Tarack should have been sleeping, he stopped. He kicked the nearest solider, a stoat into wakefullness. Yew there, where have those two gone,he asked. How should I know, the stoat replied and slumped back down to his mat. The ferret Blackblade had watched the two leave but thought nothing of it. Now he had a chance to look good and alert to his superiors. I know where they went, sir, He said. Where, the the sentry asked. They went searching in the caverns but for what I don't know, Blackblade replied. Well, you go back to sleep I'll teach those two some obedience, the sentry said. Once the sentry, whose name was Steelpaw, was gone Blackblade ran into cavern too. He knew that Tarack and Spearhide were hiding something and he intended to find out what it was. All the while the silent pair of eyes watched the lost duo waiting for its time to strike.

Chapter Four

The pair of crimson eyes watched as the pair of weasles padded off into the darkness. Then, swiftly and silently, the creature got up and took of after the beasts. The duo were groping along the walls. An evil grin ensued from the creature's mouth as it drew a long, skinny weapon. Tarak stopped and held up his paw and whispered,"Did you hear something?" Spearhide shook her head and they both continued down the pasage. The creature was closer now. Its heat sensing eyes were stung momentarily as it passed a guttering torch. It flinched but didn't give up its chase. The two weasles kept looking back over their shoulders. Something was following them. "Maybe its a gaurd or something," suggested Spearhide. "Let's hide in that corner and jump 'im when he comes by," said Tarak. They both agreed and quickly shuffled into the corner. They were starting to get comfortable when Tarak felt a warm breath in his neck. He turned around and was grabbed by a huge pair of claws.

Chapter Five

Tarak shivered as he attempted to look at the beast. His eyes failed him, seeing only a dark shadow covering the creature's face. He waited for his eyes to adjust to the dimness, and then finally saw the face of his captor. The creature was a large Marlfox, strong and sinewy with crimson red eyes. The Marlfox looked at the quivering weasel, and then grinned evily and slyly. The Marlfox grabbed the poor wretched weasel again, but then instantly heard the paw steps of a creature coming closer. The Marlfox then grinned again and pulled Tarak into the dark depths of the caves.

Spearhide had turned around to find that Tarak was gone. She smiled and thought that this was the perfect time to go search for the map by herslef. She dashed off, but was immediatly intercepted by a tallolder ferret. "Blackblade..." started Spearhide.Blackblade looked at the weasel up and down. "What are yer doin' in the mid of the night in here?" he askedsuspiously. "Ur...umm...I was just...uh..." "Lissen, whelp, gert back ter Talenrawn or I'll have yer hide ter decorate Lady Agryc's Chambers!" roared Blackblade. The weasel nodded and was escorted back to Talenrawn by the large ferret.
~*~
The Marlfox grinned again. It was only a ferret and a weasel. Then, he grabbed Tarak again and introduced himself. "Har, har. I'm Mokkan, the former High King of Castle Marl. Yer will obey what I wish, or it's yer hide that's gonna decorate my chambers!" The male weasel nodded vigorously. "Heehee, well...I should probably tell yer me plan. I take over of this uh...'Talenrawn' right? Then rule over all the land!" Tarak was looking for a chance to escape...but there was no way out. Suddenly, a deep sound came from the mysts. The Marlfox Mokkan dropped the weasel and ran off. Tarak thanked his lucky stars and ran off back to Talenrawn. But one question remained in his mind. Why did the Marlfox run off like that when the sound reached hisears???

Chapter Six

Spearhide allowed herself to be escorted willingly for a while, but when she saw her chance, she bolted. Veering sharply down a dark tunnel, she soon lost Blackblade among the winding corridors. Panting, she leaned on a wall. Spearhide looked frantically about. She could hear Blackblade's voice.

"Fan out and bring that wretch back! Otherwise Agryc will torture you mad before her sword spells out your death! I want that weasel HERE, you understand?"

But the scouts were already off at the mention of Agryc's wrath. Spearhide cursed fervently and remembered how these caverns were made to carry sounds. She took off running, dodging randomly into adjoining tunnels. She turned often around, hearing her own footpaws thrumming against the stone floor and mistaking it for those of her pursuers. Eventually she collapsed, convinced that she had outrun any danger. Only hearing her own ragged breathing, she wiped her brow nd looked up. She saw nothing but darkness. She was so far into the labrynth of Talenrawn that there were no walltorches. Inching over to the wall, she felt something. Holding it in her paws, she turned it over, wondering what it was. She felt the smooth surface, the length of it, and the knobby ends. Realization dawned on her. It was a legbone of some creature. Overcoming her shock, she held the bone like a club and walked slowly and blindly, one shoulder against the wall. How long she walked she did not know, but suddenly, she nearly shrieked when a blinding light hit her eyes. Squinting as her eyes adjusted, she peered into a lit cavern. Seated there was a grayish-brown fox, wearing a mottled brown and green cloak. Spearhide gasped and ducked around a corner as the Marlfox turned. She hefted her bone in both paws above one shoulder. But she noticed something painted on the bone.
