Unlike many Transmetal IIs he has a massive amount of vacuumised metal in this mode, with most of his head, back and abdomen being covered in orange ‘metal’ (with green splotches of paint all over). Also, unlike almost all Beast Wars insects Scourge refuses to flop on his belly. Instead he stands proudly on his decidedly thin legs, and you can even pose him in a fair number of poses without him falling over! Very impressive!
His gimmick is a Silverbolt-style wing assembly. You pull back a lever on his mid-section and his wings flip forward, triggering a button that sends one of his missiles flying. Luckily he has only one launcher, so you can only lose one missile at once.
He has 5 points of articulation in EACH rear leg, with
only 1 point in each of the 4 front legs. He can also move his wings (three
points, total), his head and his mandibles. A total of 20 points of useful
articulation in this mode alone! Yikes! And yes, the different points of
articulation DO make a different to poses, unlike with some insects where
you can only have the legs in one position before it falls down.
You can still deploy his missile launcher in the mode, and he can also use the missiles as hand to hand weapons (again, much like Silverbolt).
He looks cool… except for one major problem: his left arm. It has four insect legs hanging off it, and no real hand (just 3 vague fingers). I’m tempted to pop the insect legs off and see what he looks like without them. He doesn’t look much better. That arm just looks crap compared to his other hand (Which has a REAL hand). Err, now I don’t know how to put the legs back on. Doh!
Overall, despite his inherant Transmetal II problems (ie: no symmetry),
he’s a really cool toy, really.
