HWF MARINE EQUIPMENT Light weaponry: Class I phasers : not available for the marine corps Class II phasers : two models of identical capacity M-1/1 is the standard issue "dust-buster" model widely used on away team missions. It is seldomly used in marine circles. Effective combat range 30 meters. 600 g mass. M-1/2 is mountable to the arm of the standard body armour. It does neither have a handle nor can it be fired other than through the suits control system. Sensors prevent the phaser to be fired while the hand is in the way of the beam or ungloved. M-1/4 resembles the Romulan Disruptors and allows for more accurate handling and aiming. Effective combat range 50 meters. 650g mass. Class IIa phasers : available as assault rifle version M-2a Pulsed phaser fed from two class II power cells. Due to the additional power drain that comes with pulsed phaser fire, this weapon has twice the energy demand of a class II weapon while offering only 120% impact on unshielded targets. The advantage is the ability to wear down shielding at 250% rate of the linear model and the better short range coverage compared to a linear class II phaser. 2.2 kg mass. Effective combat range 120 meters. The assault rifle frame is sturdy and light and allows for both accurate targetting at larger ranges and reliable handling in the action. The barrel is cylindrical and the whole frame is covered with a camouflage surface. Reinforced to be usable as defensive weapon with the power cells exhausted, the frame allows for the mounting of the PGL-1S small photon grenade launcher which holds 5 chemically launched impact detonated photon grenades and similar ammunition. Additional 1.1 kg mass for the PGL. Effective target range for the PGL-1S is 60 meters Class III phasers : available as sniper rifle M-3S available as regular class III phaser rifle M-3 available as class III phaser rifle with diffusor M-3D Linear phaser fed from one class III or two class II power cells set in the M-2a assault rifle frame M-3S with slightly longer barrel and targetting system feeding either strap-on goggles or helmet visor through optical fibre. The M-3S doesn't allow for the mounting of the PGL and isn't a preferred weapon for close range fighting but does a great job at making the other side keeping their heads down. At 4.3 kg it is rather heavy, though, mainly because of the attenuation system. Effective combat range 850 meters. M-3 with standard barrel and targetting system like the M-3S, but without attenuation system and reduced mass of 2.8 kg. Provides ample linear phaser power at short to medium range and little weight. A good choice in rougher terrain and urban environment. Effective combat range of 250 meters. Equipped with an energy diffusor, the M-3D is the energy weapon equivalent to a shotgun, making for an excellent choice in narrow vicinities with the demand for quick firepower to cover a large area at short range. Drawbacks are the short target range and the amount of waste heat the system produces. It weighs 2.4 kg. Effective target range 60 meters. Class IIIa phasers : available as heavy automatic pulse gun M-3a Pulsed phaser fed from a class III multiple pack power unit in a backpack or through umbilicial feed from a vehicle or mobile generator, the M-3a is the weapon of a dedicated and especially trained gunner, providing the heavy firepower for the squad. The M-3a can either be mounted in a body suspension frame worn by the gunner for mobile use, come vehicle mounted or put down on the attachable bipod. the M-3a weighs 6.9 kg, the additional body frame is 8.6 kg. Class IVa phasers : available as pulse phaser cannon HWBS M-4a Pulsed phaser fed from the heavy weapons battle suit's microfusion reactor, the M-4a is the heaviest phaser weapon available for the mobile units of the marine corps. It usually is not available, along with the heavy weapons battle suit, on levels below that of a regiment, which usually has two platoons equipped with these. Photon grenade launcher PGL-2 : The heavy photon grenade launcher PGL-2 is available in two version, the HWBS PGL-2 which is mountable on the Heavy Weapons Battle Suit and the mobile PGL-2 which requires a squad or an APC to move and use. The PGL-2 launches matter/antimatter warhead grenades over a distance of up to 18,000 meters, using either a chemical explosive to fire the grenade or an electromagnetic accelerator. The system weighs 54 kg. The HWBS PGL-2 is limited to 45 grenade units. Available shielding systems: Personal shielding system : The SP-30 personnel shield is fed from a class II phaser energy cell and is able to sustain 30 seconds of direct level 8 phaser energy exposure before failing. The system weighs 3.8 kg and covers up to 3 cubic meters of cylindrical space. Medium portable shielding system : The SP-960 object shielding system provides the same coverage for 960 seconds before failing. It is fed by a microfusion reactor which either comes with a Heavy Weapons Battle Suit where the system is built in or with a portable reactor. The shield cocoon is segmented to provide cascaded breakdown over immediate failure. The system weighs 96 kg without reactor and covers up to 16 cubic meters of spherical space. Available infantry body armoury for marines: Standard Marine SMBA Body Armor: Armor lighter than that of the Cardassian armor, with more flexible parts based on microfiber pades, and limited strength against stray phaser fire. The visor in the helmet is connected to a small computer system built in to the torso part of the armor. This system controls communication, armour sensory system, and eventually attached additional equipment. Standard add-ons: * shoulder mounted lights (visible/IR/UV available) * M-1/2 arm mounted phaser * personal shield SP-30 Additional, non-standard add-on: * PREDATOR personal holoprojector system Standard weapons with the SMBA: M-1/4 phaser holstered and either M-2a or M-3x type phaser rifle. Scout Battle SBS Suit: Same as the Standard Body Armor, but equipped with the PREDATOR personal holoprojector system. This device has been design by a Klingon-Romulan-Federation research team for combat against the Borg. When activated, the wearer becomes nearly invisible, only a slight distortion of the environment around the suit is detectable when the bearer moves, in well lit areas areas only. The use of this suit and the PREDATOR system is restricted and requires the approval of a flag rank officer. It is not standard equipment. Heavy Weapons HWBS Battle Suit: A power suit, fully covered in armor, with the visor in the helmet operating the same as the visor in the Body Armor. Hydraulic mechanics, a feedback suit worn underneath the Battle Suit, and the built-in computer system enables a person to move normally despite the suit's weight. The Battle Suit is equipped with a SP-960 segmental shield system which encompasses the suit. Shield integrity is capable of sustaining three full force, close range photon grenade blasts. Standard add-ons: * shoulder mounted searchlights * HWBS PGL-2 photon grenade launcher (45/chemical launch) or * HWBS M-4a class IVa phaser pulse cannon * fog generator created by Lester Rees and Armin Lenz (c) 1996 for alt.holoworld.rpg
