Tricorders
The little brother of a starship's sensors, the Tricorder is a crewman's best friend. Designed mainly for field work, these devices are a combination of portable computer and a second pair of eyes. When using a tricorder, the user may act as if they have double the number of mental traits for the purposes of detecting substances, finding objects etc. It can also be used to detect objects outside the normal range that the user's species could detect (Around a corner, out of line of sight, subject is invisible, detecting radiation) using their normal number of mental traits.
Communicators
Communicaters are probably the simplest to deal with. They simply allow the transmitting of information from place to place. As an RP element however, they can be a little confusing. If you wish to 'place a call' you simply step out of game, and walk to the person you want to talk. You should, unlike using a phone in a MET LARP carry out your conversation in a normal voice rather than the voice you speak on the phone with. Passerbys can overhear these conversations. Additionally, most communicators have built in Universal Translators, making spoken languages no problem.
Engineering Equipment
From the smallest flux alignment coil, to the largest conduit interphase regulator the number of tools are at least as varied as the number of jobs. Rather than go into detail about every tool, you should probably just refer to an Engineering Kit as having what is needed. It doesn't provide any additional skills to the user, it does, however, provide a much greater range of problems that can be addressed by the Engineer in question.
PADDs
The 24th century equivilant of a laptop, this provides a large number of options to the user for data display and retrevial. The PADD replaces a computer and a notebook for the player. Players who wish to record information on a notebook should refer to their notebook as a padd. Due to the ease at which a PADD accesses data, should a player need to look up a note on a notebook they should be allowed to do so, as if the search took only 5 seconds.
Replicators
The ultimate production facility, these devices allow almost anything to be created in a split second. Combining the functions of a transporter and an assembly line, simply by requesting the desired object from the computer, and a few moments later it beams in. However, more complex objects, such as electronics or beam weapons cannot be replicated. Heavy metals or rare substances cannot be replicated either.Replicators can be a very serious game problem, often allowing characters to create something out of nothing for no price. Thankfully, substances such as Latinum, and phasers cannot be replicated. Limiting players to 'replicator credits' (ala Voyager) is one way to do it. Limiting the number of replicators available to players is another.
