Ustilagor's Dungeon Useless FactsPonderings Favorites Ustilagor About Myself Gnomes | The first gnome that I shall discuss is the rock gnome. This is your typical gnome, the one that is listed in the player's handbook. A capable adventurer and a fierce opponent, a rock gnome casts illusions as easily as a fighter swings a sword. They are a hard-working race, but they also enjoy their ale.
Next, the reclusive forest gnomes live deep in the forest. They are shorter than typical gnomes by at least a foot, but they make up for their size in their value to the forest. Nurturers and protectors, the forest gnomes help reforestation and hunt orcs and others who would disrup nature.

Finally, the deep gnomes, or svirfebli, are known as the toughest of gnomes, living a live among the Underdark as druids in a forest. Their homes are hidden in natural rock caverns deep beneath the surface. They are fierce opponents of the drow, evil dark elves, so they are known to summon earth elementals and use their natural stealth skills to fight the drow when they aren't mining the treasures of the earth.

The three main divisions of gnomes appear on most fantasy worlds, but the fourth type- tinker gnomes- are native to the land of Krynn. Krynn is the land of Dragonlance for you non-fantasy fans. They are very extremely similar to rock gnomes, but they vary in personality. While rock gnomes are known for their inventions and pranks, tinker gnomes are known to create masterpieces out of anything that they can lay their hands on.

The last point that I will cover is the religion of gnomes. Th main deity of the gnomes is Garl Glittergold. He and his magical battleaxe- Arumdina- are legendary among demi-human deities. Known as the Watchful Protector, he found the gnomes, shepherding them into the various primes. His holy symbol is a gold nugget. Baervan Wildwanderer is the gnomish nature deity. He and his animal friend, a giant squirrel named Chiktikka Fastpaws, safeguard the forests where the forest gnomes live. Many fans of the game Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn will remember Aerie, a wingless winged elf who becomes a cleric of Baervan.
