GORN
The Gorn are an intelligent race of reptiles, each bipedal and approximately seven feet
in height. Although the Gorn have revealed very little about themselves, they have been known to make occasional raids on Federation space. Some believe that these attacks were made to test the strength of the Federation and to demonstrate outright defiance of its occupied sectors.
The first contact between the Federation and the Gorn occured at Cestus III, where a
Federation colony was massacred by a Gorn vessel, the Gorn claimed that the colonization had been an illegal invasion of Gorn space. The captain of the Gorn vessel and Captain Kirk were transported to a planet by a race known as the Metrons, where each fought for the survival of his respective crew. Kirk won but refused to kill the Gorn, after realizing that the Gorn attack had been the result of a misunderstanding. Since that incident, the Gorn and the Federation have notified each other of movements along the disputed border hoping to avoid a repeat of violence.
