1st Volunteer ACR

 Unit Description

The 1st Volunteer Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) is configured, and operates as a self-contained combined-arms team. The unit is very agile, extremely adaptable, and can respond to or develop a tactical situation very quickly. Additionally, it is capable of a wide variety of operations.
The 1st Volunteer ACR's makeup is somewhat different from most conventional regiments.  It is a strong regiment made up of one Regimental Command Troop, three Armored Cavalry Squadrons (ACS), one Air Cavalry Squadron, and one Support Squadron.
In addition to working extremely well together as a cohesive team, these units can be individually deployed to supplement larger, more conventional regular units. It is, in fact, in this role that the squadrons of the 1st Volunteer ACR are usually deployed. Finally, the 1st Volunteer ACR's interchangable deployability makes it condusive to the temporary attachment of regular lances, companies, or even battalions to create a custom made unit, suited to achieve a specific or unique battlefield objective.

Below are brief descriptions of the units of the 1st Volunteer ACR.

Regimental Command Troop:

The Regimental Command Troop is generally attached to the 5th Support Squadron. It is composed of Colonel McCord and his staff, including military intelligence, opperations, and logistical staff, as well as security elements for the Command Troop and 5th Support Squadron.

Armored Cavalry Squadron:

The three Armored Cavalry Squadrons are the heart and soul of the Pale Riders.  This is a self-contained unit that is "sharp of tooth and short of tail".  This means that the ACS is a very hard hitting unit that can operate independently of supply lines for extended amounts of time.  A Pale Riders ACS is a strong battalion comprised of a Squadron Command Troop, three Cavalry Troops, one Heavy Mech Company, and one Artillery Battery.
The Squadron Command Troop is the headquarters troop for the ACS.  Most of the ACS's support vehicles and equipment are attached to the Squadron Command Troop.
The Cavalry Troop is the work horse of the ACS.  It is a strong company composed of one Troop Command Platoon, one Recon Platoon, one Scout Platoon, one Maneuver Platoon, one Fire Section, and six supply and support vehicles..  The Command Platoon is, of course, made up of the Troop's command staff.  It is a standard lance made up of a mix of medium and heavy mechs.  The Recon Platoon is a standard light mech lance.  A Pale Riders Scout Platoon is made up of four MFV-C2 Nimrod cavalry fighting vehicles.  The Maneuver Platoon is a standard medium mech lance totally composed of jump capable mechs.  Finally, each Fire Section is made up of two DV-6PR Dervishes. This is a Pale Riders variant of the DV-6M Dervish that replaces the twin Federated 10-Shot LRM Missile Systems and Federated 2-Shot SRM Missile Systems with twin Federated 15-shot LRM Missile Systems. These mechs allow the Fire Section to provide the Cavalry Troop with highly mobile, long range fire support.
Traditionally the Heavy Mech Company is never referred to as a "troop".  The Heavy Mech Company is the squadron's shock unit and is usually kept in reserve until needed.
The final unit that makes up an ACS is the Artillery Battery.  The Artillery Battery consists of two artillery platoons.  Each platoon has four TPR-B6 Templar self propelled artillery pieces, four ordnance transports, and two JM6-PR Jaggermechs.  The JM6-PR is a Pale Riders variant of the JM6-S Jaggermech which sacrifices the twin AC/2's for twin LRM-10 launchers. These provide an anti-aircraft umbrella for the Artillery Platoon.

Air Cavalry Squadron:

Primarily, the Pale Rider's 4th Air Cavalry Squadron serves the roles of reconnaissance (aerial as well as dismounted), fire support, infantry support, air assault, and target aquisition for artillery.  Additionally, the Air Cav can supplement the Support Squadron's roles of troop transport and evacuation, as well as equipment and supply transport.  The Air Cavalry Squadron is a strong squadron consisting of one Squadron Command Troop, three Aero Scout Troops, two Attack Troops, and one Transport Troop.
The Squadron Command Troop's command vehicle is a Karnov CM.  The Karnov CM is a command variant that is equipped with the THarHes HQ Commset.  It is basically an air mobile command vehicle.  Additionally, all attack helicopters in the Pale Rider's Air Cav Squadron are PRH-7 Warriors.  This is a Pale Riders variant of the Warrior H-7 that replaces the SarLon Autocannon with two Coventry Five-Tube LRM Missile Systems sharing one ton of ammo, one SperryBrowning MG, and adds one ton of armor.
An Aero Scout Troop is made up of one Scout Platoon and one Attack Platoon.  The Scout Platoon consists of six Ferret scout helicopters, four of which carry one infantry squad each.  The Aero Scout Troop's  Attack Platoon consists of four Warriors.
The Air Cav's Attack Troop is comprised of two Attack Platoons and one Scout Platoon.  Each Attack Platoon is made up of four Warriors, and the Scout Platoon consists of four ferrets.
Finally, the Transport Troop has three Transport Platoons.  Each platoon is made up of four Karnov UV's.

Support Squadron:

The Pale Rider's Support Squadron serves the bulk of the regiment's logistical, technical, engineering, and medical needs.  The amount of effort and planning that goes into supporting all the personnel and machines of a combat regiment is daunting indeed.  This is especially true for an ACR because of it's size, and the fact that by definition the entire regiment has to be totally self-sufficient for indefinite amounts of time.  When fully deployed, the 5th looks more like a busy town than a squadron.  In fact, the unit's unofficial nickname is "Tinker Town".  It is the unsung troopers of the 5th Support Squadron that are the true strength behind the 1st Volunteer ACR.  The Support Squadron is a strong battalion made up of one Command Troop, one Combat Engineer Troop, one MASH Troop, one Tech Troop, and one Supply Troop.

Although a very self-contained unit, one thing obviously lacking from the Pale Rider's TO&E is organic aerospace assets, a fact which Colonel McCord is currently trying to rectify.  The 1st Volunteer ACR should never be deployed without proper aerospace support.
