This is death. Stay away from death. Basically if instant death touches you, you die. One of the most useful ways to kill an opponent is to knock him into one of these death bubbles. Death can be useful to dodge opponents also. You can run underneath a death when a opponent is chasing you, giving you sometime to move to a safer location or gain a weapon for defense. When you win a round, be aware...Once your opponent dies you will freeze in a victory position for a few seconds. If a death hits you while you are doing your victory position there is nothing you can do about it. The round then becomes a tie. So when you win be aware of approaching deaths.
This is what the game calls "1000 volts", we call it "lightning or electricity"...It is probably the most useful weapon in this game. Once you get electricity your fighter will seem to turn electrified so to speak. This gives you the ability to destroy your opponent when you touch him. If your opponent has 1000 volts and you dont your options are limited. It is difficult...but you can escape death. You need to obviously stay as far away as possible. If you get a 1000 volts of your own you will be able to counter your opponent's. Mines and cloaks are very useful when being chased by a opponent with 1000 volts, you can lay mines in his path to delay, and use cloaks to escape dangerous situations.
This is a gun. It is good to have, and it is not good when your opponent has it. It shoots a straight shot across the screen, and if you hit your opponent he will disintigrate. You get 5 shots. Bullets are fairly easy to avoid. Basically you can just duck to avoid a bullet. When your opponent has a gun it is smart to stay on a different level. The opponent will be preocupied with using his gun to kill you and will not protect himself from melee attacks. When using a gun there is a slight pause once you press the fire button.
This is a cloak. It has its advantages and disadvantages. When you use a cloak, it is wise to have a plan in mind. Once you are cloaked, your opponent cannot see you...but you cant see yourself. Cloaks are useful to get away from opponents with electricity or to get away from dangerous situations.
This is a mine. When you lay a mine you lay it directly in front of you...so don't move forward. When mines are layed the computer will make a beep noise. This will alert your opponent, if he is paying attention he will remember where the mine is. Mines can be useful when being chased by a person with electricity. Also useful when your opponent jumps towards you, you can lay it underneath where he lands and blow him to...well anyway enjoy mines.
This is something we lovingly call, "TNT". It is useless in most ways. You cannot collect it as a weapon. It will not kill you, it just travels through you. It will roam until it hits a platform (which doesn't take long) and will blow up destroying that section of platform. After a while you may notice that a lot of the platforms are mostly gone. Most of the time though you can just ignore these.
FULL VERSION WEAPONS
This would be the teleport. One of the more pointless additions in the full version, it will put you randomly
in any place in the arena even if there is no floor underneath it. Obviously this can be a great escape tactic at times when you enemy has 1000 volts, but be warned, it can be fatal when there is little land to walk on. Sometimes it will teleport you directly into your enemy. After going through a teleport you will lose any other powerup that you had previously.
The parachute is an interesting melee weapon. (See battle variations) Your parachute can be opened during any fall, it will slow your fall, and allow you to control the direction of your fall. This is useful in many ways. You can constantly attack your enemy without the worry of falling into the pit. Once you bounce off anything (wall, enemy) you can activate the parachute to make sure you don't fly uncontrollably into the pit.
Ahh the nuke puck. This when thrown will slide along the ground and when it hits your enemy it acts like a mine by blasting your enemy off the screen. It does not bounce off walls so it dissapears of the screen when it reaches the end.
When it falls off a platform it will fall diagonally and continue on whatever platform is below. When there is 1 space between platforms that a puck is sliding over it will continue through the platforms and will not fall. The nuke puck also destroys any mine that it slides over, this is a good way of clearing your path of mines.
The hook is useful form of transportation. It is not very useful for eliminating your enemy. When you use the hook you need to be in midair, and you need to be under control (meaning you didn't just bounce off a person or wall), you will hook onto any platform in your path, and this will send you flying up to a higher level or just send you flying. You can do this repeatedly when going directly up. You can also grab onto poles if you time it just right though this doesn't really help you.
Turbo jump, this basically enables you to jump a lot higher and farther when pressing your special key. This can help you get away, and is just plain interesting. Though it can be fatal because of a deadly glitch (see glitches section).
Ahhhh Grenade...almost as useless as TNT, except its more interesting. You thor wit using the special key, it goes a specific distance, about a few blocks ahead of you, and about 1 level height in the air and just destroys the ground that it hits. It does not kill your opponent, the only way you can kill your opponent is too blow up the ground underneath them causing them to fall in the pit...this will never happen, and if it does then it was an accident.
Battle variations
After a while of playing Mduel you start to develop variations of playing. Here are mine.
Melee
Melee is very simple. Just don't use any weapons. Yes, you heard me. You're probably wondering how on earth(or mars, depending on your mental health) you're supposed to kill you opponent. That's very simple. You try to knock your opponent into ether the pit or a death. Sound's boring? It's not. This is the most fun type of play. And I've been playing this game for 2 years. If you wish cloaks or even mines can be allowed. Learn some strategies in the (duh)strategies sections.
Fun with TNT
(FWT)
All you do in this one is climb up and down the main pole getting powerups, avoiding deaths and waiting for TNTs to blow up the whole arena. This is just somthing to do if you have too much spare time on your hands. After all the platforms are destroyed jump in the pit at the same time. This gets really boring after the first time you succeed. For a real chalange play as both characters at the same time.
Suicide Race
As you can probably guess, we really have nothing better to do with our time. So we created a little game where you start by going all the way to the top floor and then race to see who can kill themselves first. Most of the time this means you try to get to the marshmallow pit as fast as possible but sometimes a death appears which is quicker. Kind of pointless but it is funny when you get to laugh at your opponent and say, "HAHA! YOU WON!"(and similar insanities.)
Strategies
This all melee strategies. If you want weapon stratagies check out the powerups section.
Tripping: Probably the safest and most useful move you can possibly do. You press forward in which ever direction and down at the same time. This will make you roll forward. If you roll into an opponent while he is standing still he will fly uncontrolably over your head, if your crafty into a pit or death. Tripping someone takes good timing. Most of the time your opponent will counter will a roll and when you hit you will both fly back. Or your opponent might jump over you. The best time to trip an opponent would probably be when he jumps down on you from a higher level. What you should do is position yourself so that you let him land without hitting you. And then immmediately roll into him when he lands. The most effective way to avoid being tripped is to duck down and stay in that position.
WARNING: It is not a good idea to roll into someone with 1000 volts...
Pushing: This practically never occurs. But when it does it is kind of interesting. This happens when your opponent is standing still and you walk into him. This will keep you standing still but send him flying. This mostly occurs when the keyboard messes up or something like that. It is not a good idea to walk into someone mostly because they can duck and when yo hit them you will go flying like you had been tripped.
WARNING: It is not a good idea to push someone with 1000 volts...
Wall bouncing: This is a very good escape tactic. It can also mean death if you do it wrong. You can jump or walk(depending upon situation) off a platform onto a wall and bounce off of it. Most of the time you will bounce off go down onto a level below you. This takes some planning. Most of the time you can just run off a platform and bounce you to the platform directly below. Strange things can occur when playing melee and bouncing off the wall. Sometimes you will bounce off the wall into your opponent sending him flying into the wall he will bounce back , you might duck or something sending you both flying into the pit...but this doesn't happen often. The one glitch in this game in when you jump from the highest level into the wall and fall to the bottom level you will seem to fall THROUGH the bottom platform. This is strange, so just don't jump from up there unless you know you aren't going to land on the most bottom platform.
WARNING: It is not a good idea to bounce off the wall into a person with 1000 volts...
Jumping: What is there to say, this isn't incredibly useful in melee combat. Only used for the basic getting to places. Jumping can be used to attack opponents that are on the level above from yours. The reaction will be that you will both fly back, but you will go up a platform somehow. This is strange, but makes the game interesting. Jumping can be used to jump over someone rolling.
WARNING: It is not a good idea to jump into a person with 1000 volts...
Glitches
There isn't that many glitches that I have seen, but they do happen sometimes...and they are pretty funny. The one that I have already mentioned is when you jump off the highest level, bounce off the wall and land on the bottom level. It will seem as though you fall through the bottom level and into the pit.
Another glitch occurs when you have 1000 volts and you kill your enemy. This will (half the time) quit the game and bring you to Windows. If you run the game from DOS then it won't happen.
Another happens when you are jumping off a wall, you fly backwards, and your opponent, for a second while you are in the air, will be able to jump through you. I don't think I have ever used this glitch to my advantage.
Finally when using the turbo jump at high levels when you fall back down you will fall through the floor.
Those glitches occur frequently. There are glitches that occur every once in a while. One would be with mines. "Mine Glitch" has occured probably 3 times in the 2 years that I have had this game. Sometimes when you are playing mines happen to be placed when no one has ever layed a mine, or gotten a mine powerup even. One time a friend and I rolled into each other and we both went flying off the top of the screen from 2 mines that were apparently right next to each other. Neither of us had touched anything having to do with a mine. Also sometimes when you lay a mine you can't hear the sound so your opponent doesn't know.
Another glitch that occured recently due to the full version was once my character froze in a strange position (not what you think) when using the hook.
