This is the menu section. From here you can target ships automatically, or control it yourself under Fire Control. Fire Control is complicated so here is a link for a explanation of it. You need this to end phases, and possibly retreat. Under Ships you can go to the next ship, or let the computer control your movement. There are some other options you can play around with.
Section 2
This is the map of the combat field. It shows where your ships are and where you opponents. It will have icons indicating where your ships are. You should be able to tell what type of ship it is also. You move your ships around the grid.
Section 3
This shows you the statistics of your ships that you have selected on the grid. You can select what ships you want to move from here. It shows you how many more space you can move and how much damage you can take. You can also evaluate your opponents ships from here. If you click on ship info you can see your opponents weapons and components. This is very useful.
