Salvador Donati

Viscount Salvador
Salvador was only 14 when his brother Tomasso rounded up the other Donati brothers to plot and scheme. He was not quite old enough to be considered a man and invited to join them, so the genesis of the plot passed him by. This was possibly one of the better things that happened to him.

With four older brothers, Salvador has no expectation of every inheriting anything. He does, however, have access to a very adequate allowance that Antonio has granted him. With few responsibilities, Salvador set out to indulge himself in whatever seemed like fun at the time. This included, at various times, music, fencing, girls, and poetry. He also went to university in Castille.

When he returned to Monfalcone, Tomasso thought he should go to Count Barozzi's court and make himself well-known there. This was amenable to Salvador, who soon made himself quite well-liked among the younger courtiers. He is an especial favorite of Countess Morena's - she is herself Castillian, and enjoys conversing with Salvador in that tongue about his time in her country. He eventually took to going off and having adventures, then returning with trophies and fantastic stories. The Count has occassionally recruited Salvador to escort archaeologists, scholars, or merchants who are travelling on his behalf into strange or remote areas. He has performed these duties well.

Salvador is not so close with his brothers, but is very fond of his little sister Anna. Whenever he can get away from the Barozzi court, he comes home to entertain her with tales of his latest exploits, tell her jokes, and tease her a little; anything to try and get her to laugh, or at least to smile.

Salvador was written up first as an NPC and has developed in some interesting directions as a PC!

Little Brother apparently grew up when nobody was watching closely. Salvador still has a soft spot and a good deal of compassion for his sister; he opposes her planned marriage very strongly and is looking at different ways to get her out of it. But that's just one of the things on Salvador's mind these days.

Why, for instance, should Tomasso be made the Lord Donati? He's cunning, sure, and is a good wheeler-dealer for the family, but he's too narrowly focused on one thing. Left in charge of the family, he'd probably run things into the ground because he can't see the big picture. Bernardo doesn't seem to be interested; Angelo's taken vows to the Church; Cristoforo; pft, please! That leaves... well, Salvador, doesn't it?

Now that the dust has settled and Antonio's still around, Salvador has shelved his ambitions for the time being. This whole association of families devoted to reclaiming the family's past glory - that'll take some time to get the feel of it. Antonio's been doing a good job, apparently, of steering through it so far, so let him keep on. Salvador will watch, and learn.

But when opportunity knocks... when Antonio thought that he was dying, Salvador managed to wrangle his support for Salvador's ambition to the viscounty. Countess Morena was entirely for it - she and Salvador are both operatives in an organization known as "Sophia's Daughters," and having him well-placed in the local government would be to their benefit. She pressed her husband to also write a letter of support. Don Giorgio Masacci was not so eager to offer a similar letter. Salvador offered to renounce his family name if selected for the position, which got Masacci's attention. He additionally required that Father Donati would not seek the bishop's crozier in Monfalcone - Donatis in the viscounty and the church would be too unbalancing. Salvador agreed (although without consulting Angelo), and had support from all of Monfalcone's leading families.

There were two wrinkles on Mondavi Island. First, the prince was suspicious of all of the support! The viscount is supposed to be an agent of the prince, not of the local nobility, after all. Don Giorgio's letter offered some reassurance: if Don Salvador failed at all in his duties, the Masacci family would be happy to report it speedily. Second, one of Mondavi's Hands was angling for the position. That was resolved in a duel, and Salvador relinquished his family name for the title.

Anna's pending engagement to Tigran Mondavi was also dissolved, to his delight.

He has continued to consort with Countess Odessa Blanchard, who seems to be encouraging some bad behaviors in him. Certainly nothing that Vanessa Jannsen, his old university sweetheart, would approve of. Salvador rediscovered Vanessa on Caligari Island where, disguised as a Vesten, she was among Aldo Falisci's seraglio of blondes. She was there to spy on the Caligari, who were responsible for the deaths of her two brothers.

Salvador's most important Sorte strand is a Cups strand to his darling sister. He also has the Lecherous Arcana.
Yes, yes, it should be "Salvatore." By the time I caught it, it was far too late to change it.
