Unrequited Feelings
by Elizabeth Vega

I pass you in the hall again
	like so many times before.
You have a stack of files but still stop and smile,
	my heart skips a beat.
We’ve been friends for so long
and yet I feel a deeper bond.
You’re my future, if you ever left me,
a part of me would be gone forever.
It took me so long to realize
and now I can’t stop thinking about you…
I need you here with me,
	you’re my everything.
Whenever I’m lost in this world of darkness we face everyday,
you light the way and I fear nothing when you are by my side.
I know we’ll be together forever,
as inseparable as day and night,
not knowing where I end and you begin.
I need to tell you, get this off my chest,
but do you feel the same?
Sometimes I see a spark in your eyes when you look at me,
	or is it my imagination?
I’m afraid to hurt our friendship
	by confessing my feelings.
But an even greater fear is never
	to tell you at all.
I look across to your office,
	the light is still on.
It has to be now!
I get up from my desk…
