Welcome to my politics page! Well, I figure I'll start off with the basics. I'm a conservative on most things. I am NOT a Republican, though I feel of the two major choices currently they are the lesser of two evils. I believe in small government, the right to choose, a strong national defense and in the religious foundation of this country. What does that mean? Well, first of all, I am very much opposed to a Democrat president. I feel that Bill Clinton has tarnished our nation's soul and should be expunged like the tumor he is. With the antics of most of the Democratic party, they should follow him out. And there are certainly plenty of Republican that should go with them. But I must admit, I still have faith in our FORM of government. We have been give a very special blessing to be in this country, especially during these times of technological advancement and progress in every aspect of the human condition. But with the vast majority of Americans turning their backs to the problems we face, we are in danger of loosing those blessings. I do have some thoughts on what I would like to see happen in our government and our military. And I'd like to welcome anyone who wants to comment on my ideas to drop me an email. First of all, I think we need to get rid of most every committee, bureau, and department in the government right now. We should not have a department of education, department of health and human services, etc... There are probably no more than 5 or 6 areas we need a senior organization, everything else can be administered from there. Once we get rid of the excess at the top we can focus on delivering the right services to the right places. We should have a single military structure, not 5 military/paramilitary arms with an ad hoc joint command structure. The national defense should be the federal governments #1 responsibility. Another area of responsibility should be interstate transportation and communications. That can be handled by one department. All federal law enforcement should be in a single organization and all intelligence organization need to be combined into a single unit. Both organizations need to be chartered with operating within and without the US, since they have two TOTALLY unrelated jobs. Intelligence agencies have no business in law enforcement and law enforcement should be feeding information to the intelligence agency. There should be a national standards board, but it shouldn't have any power to set policy, only to recommend standard. The states should be the ones to decide how and where to implement policy to meet the board recommendations. And that leaves the state department to handle foreign relations, which is what they should do. After national defense, foreign policy should be the next most important federal area of responsibility. The courts need to be overhauled to remove judges that are making laws and replace them with judges that support the law. There should be caps on lawsuits and lawyer fees and frivolous lawsuits should be summarily dismissed, with the lawyer as well as the plaintiff being fined for taking up the courts time. I feel that if we had the kind of unobtrusive government we should have then we wouldn't have personal income tax or any of the other hidden taxes that suck away our abilities to fend for ourselves. Government has no business trying to control every aspect of our lives. Welfare should be the responsibility of the community not the government. Reduced taxes and incentives to save and invest would solve most of this countries financial woes. Especially among retirees. Anyway, if you've actually read through all of this, thanks. To sum up, I think the federal government should be involved in national defense and security, interaction with other nations, interstate commerce, and providing direction for the states on things that effect the nation as a whole. They shouldn't be a national ATM machine nor a prop for ever increasing lawyer and lobbyist fees. Just my thoughts. This page last modified 10/06/03 |
