Exeunt
Vipers breeding,
serpentine scheming,
so much for humanity.
Good intentions
fall by the wayside,
as those intending
are chased away.
Justifications,
hollow sounding,
proffered daily
with poison smiles.
Whispered cautions,
one to another,
'ware the steps
lest false they lie.
Darkness crowding,
closing in round,
snuffing the candles
of dedication's flame.
Those who have labored,
long and with pride,
are steadily losing
any faith in high names.
Twisted in reason,
words turned on their side,
ethics are lost
and lies become rule.
The snake eating its tail,
all confidence fails,
then nothing is left,
for those who remain.
Subtle rebellion
the only thing open,
manner gripped tight,
passing angry eyes.
Sirens the herald,
flashing the signal,
'Best take heed,
or it's you next time.'
When compassion yields
to lawful letter,
it's the voiceless who suffer,
time after time.
