As the majority of the classic monsters of today came from novels and tales of the past (although often their writers only were inspired by pre-existing myths), the following monsters are probably the ones who will scare the future generations.

HAL 9000 from 2001 Space Odissey by Stanley Kubrik (original novel by Arthur C. Clarke). The name HAL is composed shifting down the letters of IBM (International Businness Machines). M.C.P. (Master Control Program, the name could be inspired by the old operating system called CP/M (Control Program for Microprocessors)) an evil system controlling the computer ENCOM MX-923, from Tron (1982) by Steven Lisberger, the first movie about virtual reality, with computer graphics. Skynet, the Net of computers that rules the world, from Terminator 2 - Judgement Day directed by James Cameron, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong. |
