--------INTRO
HI everyone and welcome to the third issue of tHe B~HiVe Ń. This issue takes a small turn for the serious as we focus on several exciting missions and launches, all happening AS WE SPEAK!!! Since my post summer vacation has co~incided with the Cassini launch, I shall drive the seven hours south to watch it, I'm real lucky thatthe postponement from the 6th of Oct to the 13th still falls within my vacation time, so I'm going!! I'll take lots of pics and video and have them scanned, You'll be able to see them in my next issue in the links cae

--------UPDATES FROM WAY OUTER SPACE
THE Mars Global Surveyor arrived at Mars on Sept. 12 to begin a full two year {one martian year} mapping mission of the red planet, among many of the items of interest will be the Mars Face, the poles, the pathfinder/voyager landing sites, and who knows what else. After this mission, the info sent back will allow us to create 'holodecks' of mars for the astronauts who will eventually go there. The first pics will be back in march 98. Stay tuned here for details and live footage, like this Mars Mpeg
In other news, NASA's JPL is currently working on plans for the PLUTO EXPRESS...a robotic/recon spacecraft destined for PLUTO and it's moon CHARON. It's tentative arrival date is 2010ish, A time when space hotels (much like cruise liners today) are becoming an affordable vacation for many. A time when the space shuttles; Columbia, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor will be on display in the Smithsonian, and yes my friends, we will all still be alive. IN FIFTEEN YEARS!!! ...and for those of you who have forgotten about Galileo, well she's still orbiting jupiter and still sending back data and pics..check out my links for more details

--------MISSION (out of) CONTROL

Atlantis launched on Sept25th to meet up and dock with the MIR space station, to retrieve american astronaut Micheal Foale and to replace him with Dave Wolf, the shuttle astronauts also carried a new computer on board for MIR, Dave, who is replacing Mike has named the new computer HAL. What I can't figure out is why they named the shuttle 'Atlantis' something that goes up, named after something that went down, hmmmn... However they crew of Atlantis did help find the hole in the Specter module,Maybe the russians , with the help of David Wolf , can get it fixed and add some breathing room to the Cramped space station. Atlantis landed at Kennedy Space Center on Monday Oct6th (a day late due to bad weather at KSC) with astronaut Micheal Foale who spent all of four and a half months in space. WOW!! Now I'd like to do that!!

--------Conspiracy Corner
ok my top 10 conspiracy theories... {but don't tell anyone}

10) the dramatic increase in space interest among the general public over the last 2 or 3 years, the goverment loosening us up for the REVEALING of the truth
9) MIMAS (Saturn moon) is really The Death Star
8) that 10 mile long runway in Peru is one motherfucker of an alien airstrip
7) Mars face and Sphinx face are twins
6) the pyramids at giza are really alien landing signals...depending on the shadows they know where to land and who to abduct...
5) Mulder and Scully are hive
4) CSM figured out the HIVE are allergic to smoke.
3) So many comets lately cannot be a co-incidence.
2) Dave and Hal aboard MIR together
1) "...my name is John Loengard...i'm recording this because i may not live through the night....history as we know it is a lie...they're here...they're hostile and powerful people don't want you to know..."

--------FINAL CUT
...Story Musgrave retires from NASA after 4 decades...!!!
Story Musgrave, whose career spanned from the Apollo era and Skylab pilot missions til now including the creation of spacewalk strategies (for the int. space station to begin orbital construction next summer) and other EVA maneuvers has decided to have a life and retire from the space program. Story at 62 became the oldest man to fly in space when he Captained the space shuttle Columbia in 1996. Although his most famous mission was the 1991 H.S.T repair mission Story Musgrave is a serious veteran of space travel having logged over 2800 hours in space...He is truly the Sam Mills of NASA, however the main reason I respect Story Musgrave so much is that he's the only NASA astronaut (that I know of) who has publicly stated that every time he went up in space he hoped and expected to encounter aliens. He once said he spent hours staring out the shuttle window looking for "...for whatever is out there" in a field so nerd-inclined, it's refreshing to have those like Story Musgrave..........................
