The Ring of Fear Drinking League - Provisional Rules and Regulations ==================================================================== 1) General Secretary -------------------- The General Secretary of the Ring of Fear Drinking League (henceforth referred to as the RoFDL) will be appointed by a majority vote of all members of the Ring of Fear at the Inaugural General Meeting of the RoFDL. 2) Inaugural General Meeting of the RoFDL ----------------------------------------- This will be held on the twentieth day of March, nineteen hundred and ninety nine, immediately prior to the commencement of the first match of the 1999-2000 season. 3) Season Dates --------------- The 1999-2000 season will be deemed to run from the twentieth day of March, nineteen hundred and ninety nine (20.03.1999), to the nineteenth day of March, two thousand (19.03.2000) 4) Participation and Costs -------------------------- Those wishing to take part in the Ring of Fear Drinking League (henceforth referred to as the RoFDL) on a professional basis will pay a cost of Five Pounds to the General Secretary of the RoFDL, this money being put aside for the procurement of a trophy for the eventual winner of the RoFDL. Those unwilling to participate on a professional basis may compete on a strictly amateur basis, on the understanding that no trophy will be awarded should an amateur contestant emerge as the eventual winner. No switch from amateur to professional status, or vice-versa, may take place other than at the commencement of a new season. 5) The Rules of The Game ------------------------ 5.1) The winner of each match will be determined by the amount of alcohol ingested by each contestant over the course of the Saturday roleplaying session. 5.2) Commencement of Play : the game will be deemed to have commenced once a majority of all players expected that weekend have arrived. Any drinks beforehand are deemed to be void. 5.3) Half Time : there is no half-time. Curry and video watching breaks are part of the match. 5.4) Close of Play : a game is not deemed to be closed until the majority of players present have adjourned for a kip. Drinks consumed after the accepted close of the game are deemed to be void. 5.5) Vomiting : in the event of vomiting, the contestants points total for the day will be halved. 5.6) Falling Asleep / Unconsciousness : Falling asleep is a legitimate move, hence points accrued up to the point of unconsciousness are deemed to be valid. 5.7) 'B' Fixtures : Friday nights before the match do not count. However, if more than half the expected contestants are present, this may be counted as a 'B' game, and half the points accrued accumulated. 5.8) European Ties : Points accrued at those matches taking place in Scotland and Wales will contribute to the final league reckoning in the standard manner, *however* the winner of each of these individual rounds will be deemed to have won the Scottish and Welsh Cup respectively, and a small trophy awarded (precise nature of which to be determined by the members of the RoFDL. 5.9) Friendly Ties : Non-RPG activity such as staggers, weddings, weekends away do not count in the league, hence no points will be accrued for the RoFDL, hence a great deal of personal satisfaction will be the only reward for winning such a tie. 6) Points Awarded ----------------- 6.1) Before the commencement of the inaugural season, the members of the RoFDL will decide on a standard definition of the following :- One standard shot of spirits One standard glass of wine One small can/bottle of beer/lager/stout/cider One large can/bottle of beer/lager/stout/cider The percentage alcohol above which a beer/lager/stout/cider is deemed to be 'extra-strong'. This is provisionally defined as 5% ABV. The percentage alcohol above which a beer/lager/stout/cider is deemed to be 'nutter-strength'. This is provisonally defined as 7% ABV. 6.2) Before the commencement of each match, present members of the RoFDL will agree by majority vote on a Drinks Master for the session (henceforth referred to as the DM). This will typically, but not necessarily, be the RPG Dungeon Master for the session 6.3) Points will be scored as follows : the competitor will bring forth his drink, verifying with the DM that said drink concurs with the standard definition agreed, and the points value for the drink will be determined . After the drink has been finished, the DM will add the points accrued to the competitors total. 6.4) Points are only accrued from empty bottles/cans GIVEN to the DM. 6.5) Non-empty beer bottles must never leave the field of play (the RPG table) once opened. 6.6) Drinks are assigned a points value as follows :- One shot spirits : 0.5 points One glass wine : 0.5 One shot absinthe : 2 points One small can/bottle of standard beer/lager/stout/cider : 1 point One small can/bottle of extra-strong beer/lager/stout/cider : 1.5 points One small can/bottle of nutter-strength beer/lager/stout/cider : 2 points One large can/bottle of standard beer/lager/stout/cider : 2 points One large can/bottle of extra-strong beer/lager/stout/cider : 3 points One large can/bottle of nutter-strength beer/lager/stout/cider : 4 points 7) The League ------------- 7.1) Points will be accrued at each match over the 1999-2000 season. *However*, for the purposes of determining final league positions, a competitor may only count the Five (5) highest scores accrued by himself over the course of the season. 7.2) The final trophy will be awarded on the morning after the final match of the 1999-2000 season, precise date to be determined by the members of the RoFDL. 8) Additional Rules ------------------- 8.1) Cheating and Ungentlemanly Conduct : a competitor suspected of cheating, or acting in a manner contrary to the spirit of the RoFDL by the majority of match competitors will be deemed to be a bounder and the worst sort of cad, and, as such, will be subject to strict and sever penalties (nature of which to be determined by the RoFDL disciplinary consultant, provisionally assumed to be Mr R Ball). 8.2) Non-Alcohol Additives (henceforth referred to as the Atwal Shandies and Tops Amendment) :- FOR BEERs "What you add to your beer is up to you. If you want lemonade then go for it, you're just wasting liquid capacity in your stomach which could have been used for more beer." FOR SPIRITS. "The imbiber must pour the shots out to allow the DM to judge if single or double, etc. Once agreed, the points are attributed to player and said player can add non-alcohol mixers as desired.
