"Our life runs down in sending up the clock.
The brook runs down in sending up our life.
The sun runs down in sending up the brook.
And there is something sending up the sun.
It is this backward motion toward the source
Against the stream, that we most see ourselves in.
It is from this in nature we are from.
It is most us."
-Robert Frost, West-Running Brook
Eight years old and i was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. i remember the day well- it was cold. my birthday had just passed, which was on the Ides of March. (Beware, Julius!!!) The year was 1982. We were living in Izmir, Turkey, and needed a baptismal font. We were to go to the sea.
Teeth chattering, we made our way through the storm- it was lightning and thundering and i was afraid of jellyfish. Yes, jellyfish. My father asked me if i was sure i wanted to continue- i was. He pulled me into the water. i was baptized.
Now, years later, i am still LDS. To those unfamiliar with the title, i am Mormon. One of 'those crazy ones.' But, ahh... 'tis a comfort to be crazy when one knows one is living in truth. i am a great seeker of truth. i look for it in the mountains, among the clouds, even in great works of art like the coloured comics we get on Sundays.
Mass of angels, mass confusion.
It's cold...injection of blue ink under the skin.
Chaotic world, screaming for mercy.
But there is... no mercy.
It runs in circles, madly spinning,
spinning madly
Yet- the passion play is nearly over.
A silence slowly swallows the cries,
swallows the pain.
The world is being baptized by fire-
And soon everything will be new again,
Everything- clean.
And man will be given his mercy-
at last.
