Orchids!

I've been growing orchids for about 5 or 6 years.
My favorites are the lady slippers (esp. the mutations
such as  Paph. insigne var. Oddity or  Paph. hirutissimum var. peloric. I am also fond of the Cattleyas and their relatives. The breeding of these relatives is of particular interest to me!

Here is a picture of one of my mutated ladyslippers, Paph. Thea Engel, which has two staminodes, two lateral sepals, and a deeply cleft pouch. It seems to produce this mutation consistently. I intend to breed it and see if I can the it's progency to carry its 'double' flowers.

I have also accquired a weirdly mutated plant from a selfing of Paph. moquettianum 'Pine Knot'. So far, it has had one flower with an extremely elongated pouch; which was covered with warts. Its next flower had the pouch opening backwards! Unfortunately, the flower stalk died shortly thereafter and I am presently giving it extra attention in the hope that it will produce another stalk soon. I have rotten (no pun intended) luck flowering Paphs, so I am not holding my breathe on this one.

For you people who like normal Paph's here's a picture I took of my Paph. Satchel Paige, which began blooming again just a month or two after the last flowers faded. It also has some of the most beauitful jade-colored leaves I have ever seen on a Paph. One of my firsts...

Here is a picture of one of my favorite plants, a peloric alba variety of Dtps. Purple Gem. I am waiting to self-pollinate and mericlone it so that other people can enjoy the beautiful sprays of flowers it produces. I may even take a course on mericloning this January ('02)! I'm very excited! If I prove to be good at it I will offer some of the results up for sale here.

I now have a list of orchids which I own. Pictures of my orchids will be posted there as they become available. Feel free to contact me if you want to trade for any of them (though many are too small for immediate trade). You can check out my wish list to see what I may be interested in trading for, though I will at least consider most offers. Either way, enjoy!

I am constantly seeking mutated orchids!

If anyone out there has any mutated or unwanted plants which are simply taking up space or you just want to get rid of, please contact me and we can arrange a way for me to take them off your hands ;) This applies to any major orchid firms as well. I also have a wish list of orchids that I would love to receive/buy/or trade for. I am especially looking for Lc. Cluster Fire 'Cinnabar'. It is more frequently denoted as (Lc. Fiery x C. aurantiaca) 'Cinnabar' Thanks to Arne for the image. If you have any of them, please feel free to contact me. Thanks in advance.
