Sliders is a show about Quinn Mallory, an advanced physics student, who accidentally discovered a gateway to different
dimensions. Quinn, his best friend Wade Wells, his physics professor Maximillian Arturo and an R&B singer Rembrandt
Brown prematurely entered the vortex, and are now continually sliding until they get home.
Why are they sliding?
The sliders are sliding continuously in search of Earth Prime (their home earth), because of a slight accident. Quinn had built a
timer, a device that would re-open the wormhole, so he could go sliding. After his first unexpected slide, he returned to meet
another version of himself, known as a "double". This "double" was Quinn from another dimension. This Quinn had already
begun sliding and figured out the formula for why he was sliding. He warned Quinn not to alter the timer (the timer would count
down until the wormhole reopened) or it would have serious side-effects. But the double slid away before explaining his
warning.
The first world the four sliders went to together was a world in an ice age. They feared they would freeze to death before the
timer had finished counting down. When they saw a tornado headed their way, they had to alter the timer so the wormhole
would open straight away.
The timer, when altered, did not send them home. Instead they slid to a random world, wih a random time countdown. Now
they slide indefinitely to try to find their home.
Why haven't they got home yet?
The professor once theorised that for every decision ever made there is a different world. This would mean an infinte number
of worlds. Whether the sliders have to visit each one before they get home or not, it will still take them a heck of a long time to
get home.
What is the wormhole?
The wormhole is what is scientifically known as the Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky bridge that joins two parallel dimensions. It's like
a tunnel, and can be opened in the air, for sliders to travel between worlds.
What is the timer?
The timer is like a remote control that opens the wormhole. It has a digital face that tells how long until the next wormhole
opens. Some timers can track wormholes and store dimension co-ordinates. However, you have to wait out the time on the
timer or you'll be sliding forever like the sliders.
