The newest book in the Shannara saga has been released today!
"The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Ilse Witch" the first book in a new five book series is now available in hardcover at your favorite bookstore! Go read it!

August 14, 2000

The name of the second book forthcoming in the new Shannara series has been announced. The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Antrax is the next novel in the new series. Make note that the word is Antrax...and not AntHrax, which is a disease used in biological warfare.

As for the site, a new section will be appearing shortly dedicated to the Shannara PC game that was released in 1985. It will include screenshots of the game and other information about the game that inquiring Shannara fans want to know. Also, after the release of the first book in the new Shannara series, a section for the new series will be created. Thanks for being a Friend of Shannara!

The moment we are waiting for is just around the corner... Terry Brooks' new novel in the Shannara series is due in September...just two months away! Start reading up on all your Shannara novels so you're fresh for the continuing saga in "The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Ilse Witch"! Between now and the release of the new novel, Friends of Shannara will be completing the picture Gallery and adding some information on the up-and-coming illustrated Companion book to Shannara by artist David Cherry...as well as adding a section for the new Voyage of Jerle Shannara trilogy. Remember, there are to be two more books following this new trilogy...they are not considered part of the next three books which make up the trilogy, so it will be interesting to see if they following the timeline from the Trilogy or if Terry explores the old days again!

Wow! I've been very lazy with updating this site! The new Shannara novel is coming out in several months and I have yet to make a section for it. Shame on me! It's not that I have fallen away from Shannara... I've just been very busy. College was a cake walk compared to working 40 hours a week and making a living! I'll tidy up shortly and get the latest Shannara info. posted very soon now. In the meantime, the official Terry Brooks website has all the know on the new novel (of course) so go there for some information until I get FOS updated.

Big news! The official Terry Brooks website, entitled The Wondrous Worlds of Terry Brooks is up and running! Go there and bookmark it now; it will be the grand central station for Brooks fans after it has been completed. Also, the new book covers for the Shannara novels will be posted in the Gallery of FOS shortly..I've been somewhat unable to get on the ball with Christmas and all...but now I've got the time to get my act together. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a great New Year!

December 2, 1999

Major updates for FOS are a new Gallery area with artwork from the artists who have done the book covers and art within the books, featuring the artwork of Keith Parkinson. Also added a section in the Forum area that contains various interviews and articles with and about Terry Brooks. Both of these sections will grow as I gather subject material.

November 22, 1999

Word has it that Terry Brooks new novel in the Shannara series has been named, "The Ilse Witch: Book One of The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara". The hardcover is scheduled to come out in September 2000. It takes place after The Talismans of Shannara and involves Walker Boh. Also, look for new covers to the existing Shannara novels in your local bookstore.

The "Tours" section of Friends of Shannara debut's today with an exciting appearance of Terry at Gene's Books to sign copies of "Angel Fire East" and to read from a work in progress...the new Shannara novel? Go to the Tours section for contact info.

The rumor that a movie based on Shannara is in the making has been proven false. On October 3rd I got this reply from delrey@randomhouse.com:
"I just did an interview with Terry for the DR website, and asked him specifically about movies and Shannara. He replied that nothing is in the works."
As some of you may know, a movie (not an animated one) based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is in the making...this is important because it is the in the same genre as Shannara. Cross your fingers; maybe sometime in the future we will hear that there will be a Shannara movie after all.

Revised FOS News - A section will be added to this site in the near future with info. on miscellaneous Shannara points of interest including: The Shannara computer game that came out in 1985, images of the maps and artwork in the Shannara books (with permission of Del Rey), and interviews, multimedia, and other items as they surface. Any comments, ideas, or materials you wish to submit are welcome.
The FOS messageboard has been quite active of late...please feel free to join in the discussions.

From the Dept. of News that really isn't new, but should be included on this site anyway:

Starting around the new millenium there will be five new Shannara books coming out. They will take place where The Talismans of Shannara left off. Along with the new Shannara books, Terry Brooks will release some short stories concerning the characters from the first three books in the Shannara Trilogy. Also, a companion book will possibly be published. Think of it as a possible Visual Guide to the Four Lands. It will have maps from the Shannara series (hopefully all color), and also artwork.

Updated FOS... specifically, started posting reviews of the individual books on the "Review" section.
Rumors still abound of the possible making of a movie based on First King of Shannara. I am in the process of corresponding with the people at Del Rey to see if any reliable information can be gleaned about this...whether it is true or not.

As of today, Terry Brooks is finished with his book-signing tour for the novelization of Star Wars: Episode I. The author and publisher are saying Terry's new book, ANGEL FIRE EAST, the last book in the WORD OF THE VOID series, will be released in September or October. Word has it that Terry will have a teaser from the new SHANNARA book he is working on at book signings for ANGEL FIRE EAST. Tour dates and places for signings on ANGEL FIRE EAST will be posted here as soon as they are released. The new SHANNARA book is tentatively scheduled to be released in September of '00.
