Witch Trials: OAD-September 30th, 1999.
The season opener starts out like a pretty normal episode of Charmed, a humourous scene which gets us back into the girls and thier lives. However, tomorrow is very special for the Halliwell sisters, it is the 1 year anniversary of thier becoming witches. So, the next day starts out normal, until a demon shows up through a "portal" and nabs the Book of Shadows.
Phoebe discovered a spell saying to fight the demon with the power of one. However, grams seems to think differently by magically calling to the girls, "the power of three". With the help of Phoebe's witch friend, Piper and Phoebe use the spirit board to talk to the book. Through other research, Phoebe discovers that the book hasn't left the house, that it is on the Astral Plane, a plane of existence that co-exists with our world, but we cannot see it except through a doorway or window. Meanwhile, Piper is checking out her new nightclub when all of a sudden Jeremy shows up and tried to kill her. After a few freezes and a conference call, the girls say "the power of three" spell and Jeremy again returns to dust. You see Abraxas (the demon) is reading the book backwards, making all the villians the girls vanquished reappear one by one. Each spell he reads, causes it to disappear from the book, until ultimately Abraxas gets the powers of the Charmed Ones. So, after a few more Warlock battles, and a very emotional scene between Prue and Agent Morris, Andy's ex-partner, the girls get together and draw a triquatra (thier symbol) on the attic wall. Prue gets ready to use her power (the strongest of the powers) against Abraxas, but emotionally breaks down, so Abraxas throws some spell at the girls, fliging them back against the wall and shutting the door. Phoebe says that the only way to get the book back now is to call it using the incantation she read that released thier powers from the Book of Shadows. Luckily, they read it in time, and Abraxas is sucked into the book's seal on the cover, with some kickin special effects. Thus, evil is punished, Piper gains her loan for the restaurant, Prue is dealing with Andy's death a bit better, and Phoebe is still learning as much about witchcraft and thier heritage as she can. The episode closes with us finding out that it is Grams' spirit who flips the books pages when asked, and she will watch them and help as much as she can, even though she's been dead for a year or so.
This episode's Rating: 10/10 Two Thumbs Up!!!
In this episode, Phoebe has a premonition of her being burned at the stake at some point in the future. The girls then cast a spell to move them into the future to save Phoebe. However, there lives aren't exactly in good shape (Piper and Leo are about to get a divorce and Prue is seeing what working too hard will do for one's social life) so helping the arrested Phoebe get out of jail is pretty tough. They attempt to break Phoebe out of jail using witchcraft to aid them, not for the greater good. In the end, Phoebe gets burned anyway and Piper and Prue return to the past grieving. However, Phoebe is also there, and realizes that they must change the present to avoid having THAT future.
This episode's Rating: 8/10 Not Bad at all! The "Pratt" character was definetaly a good idea and added a lot of debth to the episode.
This episode starts out with a woman named Jane approaching Prue and getting Prue to sell her painting of a beautiful old castle. Meanwhile, Phoebe crashed Prue's car into a pole, and is trying to get a job to pay for damages. Phoebe laments on not going to college, and decides to cast a Smart Spell on herself for 24 hours to get her job. Prue has had time to discover "the man" living inside the painting, and after finding some hidden words Prue recits them and is sucked inside the painting. The man inside, who's name is Malcolm, says that he's been living in the painting for 70 years, since his wich lover cursed him inside. In the real world, Piper discoveres that Phoebe is now a genious, and that Prue is missing. She goes to Buckland's and takes the painting, as well as the incantation to put someone in the painting. Piper mistakingly says it, getting pulled into the painting and leaving Phoebe to figure out what happened and how to save her sisters with the sole clue of "Nell". It turns out Nell is a witch who cursed a Warlock into the painting, his power is X-Ray vision which is why he could see the hidden words. Phoebe sends in Kit with the spell to return someone from the painting on the cat's collar. However, Malcom gets ahold of the spell and escapes, blinking out of the house. Outside, he reunites with his Warlock lover and they wait till 7 when Phoebe's smart spell wears off to kill the girls. At 7, they return and Phoebe sucks everyone in as Malcolm sets the painting on fire. However, Phoebe picks Malcolm's pocket and gets the return spell from them, escaping from the painting just as the frozen Malcolm and lover are burned to death along with the painting.
This episode's Rating: 9/10 Very Nice! During a freak heat wave, Phoebe begins to have strange dreams where she seduces a man, has sex with them, and then kills them. After consulting with Piper, and after Morris asks for Prue's help in solving a case involving a series of "strange deaths", the girls look to the book where they discover the demon they are fighting is called a Succubus. A spell to attract the succubus is inside the book, and Prue decides to cast it. This spell attracts the succubus by turning Prue into a man, so she can attract it with her "charm". Piper and Phoebe attempt to instruct Prue on how to act like a man long enough for her to attract the Succubus and destroy it. The grils discover that the succubus chooses its victims from a local dating service, so Prue registers her video and waits for a response. Meanwhile, Phoebe realizes she sees from the eyes of the succubus occasionally, and is trying to protect the succubus' next victim from being killed. After a battle which takes that dude and Prue to jail, the succubus becomes attracted to Prue. They meet and are saved by Morris who shotts the succubus after prue attempted to use her power and could not due to the effect the succubus can produce on her victims.
At the coroner's office, the succubus awakens from being shot and takes out Morris' woman chasing partner. Prue ends up having to battle it out with the succubus with the help of Phoebe psychic link and a candle. She vanquishes the succubus and returns to her natural female state.
This episode's Rating: 5/10 Kinda Cheesy, but good plot idea.
This episode's Rating: 3/10 VERY Cheesy, too many bad references and jokes. The acting was nice though, which saved it a bit.
This episode's Rating: 8/10 GREAT plot and character development. The originality was a nice break and tieing the storyline in with the girls past was a fun touch.
Overall, this episode had EVERYTHING desireable abotu an episode of Charmed.

The only thing really lacking in this episode was the fact that Phoebe's smart spell was supposed to work through the "touch" of either hand. However, the spell enabled her to turn books pages by holding her hands above them, not touching them.
