"He was brought across in 1228
Prayed on humans for their blood
Now he wants to be mortal again
To repay society for his sins
To emerge from his world of darkness
From his endless forever night!"
- From the opening title
Forever Knight is about a vampire named Nick Knight. In the 13th century, he was brought across by Lucien LaCroix. Since then he has been traveling the world off and on with LaCroix and Janette DuCharme, another of LaCroix's "children". The three of them were inseparable for a time, but they eventually went their seperate ways. After years apart they meet up again in the city of Toronto. Janette lives and works in her night club, The Raven. LaCroix has a gig as the "Nightcrawler" on a radio station. And Nick is a detective working the graveyard shift for the Toronto PD and looking for a way to become human once again...
Detective Nick Knight was brought across in the 1228 by Lucien LaCroix. And for centuries he fed on the blood of humans. Now and for the last couple of centuries, he has been trying to regain his mortallity. Now, with the help of Natalie Lambert, he just might get what he wants, his humanity restored. But first he must prove to himself, as well as humanity, that he deserves it. With centuries of human blood on his hands, this won't be easy. But Nick is willing to fight for it. Fight for his right to become human again. And he hopes that, soon, his forever night will end...
Dr. Natalie Lambert met Nick one fateful night when he was brought to her in a body bag. She was the coroner on duty that night, and when Nick was wheeled in, she was told that he had been in an explosion. When she got a look at him, she realized that he wasn't as badly mangled as she'd thought he would be. But soon, before she could preform the autopsy, he woke up. And for the first time in her life, she knew that vampires really did exist! A few weeks went by, and Nick realized that she couldn't be hypnotized, so he allowed her to help him in his quest for humaniy...
Lucien LaCroix is almost two thousand years old. And he has brought many across. Including Janette DuCharme and Nicolas Du Chevalier. But of all of those, only Nicolas has caused him so much trouble. Once truly loyal to LaCroix, Nick now wants to break the blood bond between them and regain his humanity. He is still loyal, and he wishes that LaCroix would respect his choice, but LaCroix would rather keep him on a leash. LaCroix doesn't want to loose his favorite "child". And he would do just about anything to stop Nick from becoming human again. He has already foiled some of Nick's attempts, and who knows how far he will go to keep Nick with him for the rest of his immortal life...
Janette DuCharme was brought across approximately one thousand years ago and has traveled with Nick and LaCroix for most of that time. Janette became a kind of forever lover to Nick and the two have shared many a moment. Now in Toronto, Janette owns her own night club, The Raven, where others of their kind frequent. And where Nick and LaCroix spend most of their spare time. She thinks Nick's quest is foolish, but she won't stand in his way. She may sometimes try to talk him out of it, but she knows that she can't, no matter how hard she tries...
Detective Don Schanke was Nick's first partner while he worked in Toronto. Schanke didn't know Nick's secret and he had no inkling that vampires really existed. He was sometimes amazed at how quickly Nick could take out a suspect, or figure out who the killer was. But one night, after he had borded a plane for a business trip he was taking with his captain, his life was ended before he ever found out the truth about Nick...
Detective Tracy Vetter took Schanke's place as Nick's partner after Schanke's demise. At first she was only to partner with Nick for a short time, but she ended up staying on as his partner. Tracy was the commissioner's daughter and had recently been promoted to detective. While investigating the plane explosion that took Schanke's life, Tracy saw something that caught her off guard: a man holding his severed hand. That man was Javier Vachon, and Tracy found out that he was a vampire. Like Natalie, Tracy can't be hypnotized. (Unless the vampire doing the hypnotizing is LaCroix!) For the longest time, Tracy never knew that Nick was also a vampire. He kept it from her even though he knew that she knew about his kind. But as fate would have it, Tracy found out, only to die a few hours later...
Javier Vachon is over five hundred years old. He was on his way out of Toronto when the plane he was aboard exploded. While looking for his missing hand, he met Tracy. And through Tracy, he met Nick. Nick didn't trust Vachon and he let him know it. Nick didn't want Tracy to get hurt. Vachon didn't want to hurt Tracy either, but he felt attracted to her, much like Nick was attracted to Natalie. But both vampires knew it was useless to get involved with humans. If their bloodlust didn't kill them, then old age would. And Nick and Vachon weren't ready to bring Natalie and Tracy across. But Vachon never got much of a chance with Tracy, as LaCroix's master and biological daughter, Divia, returned and took revenge on anyone who was close to LaCroix. Ultamitly killing Vachon...
