The Redemption Chronicles:
The Return

by C.j.

I don't own any of these characters, they belong to Joss Whedon only. (Except Lyndsee) The idea is mine.

AUTHORS NOTE: THIS TAKES PLACE AFTER BUFFY LEAVES SUNNYDALE.

Part Three

Lyndsee stopped when she realized that nobody was following her. She had to be more careful about her identity. Her watcher was always telling her that.

Lyndsee remembered her mission and pulled out a piece of paper from her black cords. "Guess I'd better check it out." she said as she made her way to Angel's apartment.

"I have no idea who she was, and she was fast." Buffy said seriously.

"And she slayed a vampire?" Giles asked, pacing.

"Yup." Buffy nodded.

Giles sat down, then said. "The only explanation I can offer is that she's a Slayer. Since Kendra died another was called upon."

Buffy nodded, "That makes sense."

"Or she could just be some psycho who knows about vampires and decides to kill them." Cordy offered.

Xander shook his head at her.

"What? I'm trying to help." she said innocently.

Xander nodded playfully. "Well doesn't that include thinking?"

Cordy shot him a glare.

"I agree with Giles." Willow stepped in, not wanting to hear Cordy and Xander argue.

"Me too." Buffy replied. "Now I just have to find out why she's here."

Lyndsee opened the door to Angel's apartment and gazed around. "He had good taste." she said to herself.

"Okay, something that resembles love." she muttered as she looked around.

She walked form shelf to shelf and found nothing.

Annoyed, she plopped down on his bed. She heard a metallic clatter . Curious she stood up and looked down to see a silver object spinning around. She reached down and grabbed it.

"A ring." she said, examining it. "This will work." she smiled as she stood up and made her way to her next stop.

Lyndsee stared at Acathla.

"So, you're the portal into hell." she muttered, "Well, I've come to retrieve something."

Remembering what her watcher had told her. Lyndsee pushed the first finger on the demon's right hand. A slot from the side opened. Lyndsee dropped the silver ring into it, and watched the slot close.

She stepped back and waited.

Suddenly a blast of light came from Acathla's mouth. It swirled around and slowly grew larger. Then, with no warning a body tumbled out and landed at Lyndsee's feet.

The light disappeared.

Angel looked up at the dark-haired girl that was standing above him.

"What's going on?" he asked, confused.

"You don't remember?" she asked as she stepped over him. "I mean, if I was in hell I would defiantly remember." The slot popped open and she picked up the silver ring.

"Excuse me?" Angel asked, eyes misted over with confusion.

"Nevermind." she said as she handed him the ring, "This is yours."

Angel shook his head, "This isn't mine."

"It was in your apartment. Doesn't matter, whoever's it is or was, it worked." Lyndsee replied.

"What do you mean?" Angel asked.

"I had to use something that represented love to get you out of hell." she explained "And that ring worked."

"Oh." Angel said. He knew who's it was, and why it had worked but he wasn't going to say anything. It hurt him that Buffy had taken it off. Why would she do that? his heart asked himself.

"Why did you get me out of hell?" Angel questioned.

"My watcher sent me. He said that you were suppose to even out the score of good and evil again, whatever that means." she shrugged, obviously not caring what it meant.

"Watcher?" Angel asked, "You're a slayer?"

"Yeah." Lyndsee said, nodding.

Angel's eyes filled up with worry, "What happened to Buffy?" he asked, his heart dreading the answer. If Buffy was dead he wanted to be dead too.

"Huh?" Lyndsee asked, confused.

"Buffy!" Angel yelled, "She's a slayer, what happened to her?!?"

"Well, if she's a slayer and I've been called upon, the only answer is that she's..." Lyndsee's voice trailed off.

Angel's heart fell apart. He refused to believe that his Buffy was dead. She couldn't be. She wouldn't leave him alone.

"No!!" Angel yelled as he took of down the hall.

"Angel!!" Lyndsee yelled. "Wait!! There's something you should know!!"

Angel ignored her and ran faster. He had to get to Giles. He would know what happened to Buffy.

He threw open the front door and ran outside.

The sunlight surrounded him. Angel winced and held up his hands as a shield, his heart full of fear.
