Kenshi sat at the edge of the roof of his house. He looked down at the ground. He sat looking as if he was in thought. Then he noticed a car entering his driveway. As the car came into better view, Kenshi saw that it was somewhat old and not in very good condition. But the reflection from the windshield prevented him from making out the driver. The car parked beside Kenshi's and the door slowly opened. As the driver got out of the car, Kenshi could see that it was Tanso.

Tanso shut the door and approached the house. He looked up at Kenshi. "How's the weather up there?"

Kenshi smirked. "Not bad. Kinda sunny."

"Do you enjoy sitting up there?"

"Well I figured that maybe if I jumped off, I'd start flying."

Tanso laughed. "I take it it didn't work."

Kenshi sighed. "No."

"Well does jumping from that small height scare you?"

Kenshi laughed. "Of course not."

"Then you might as well be on the ground. Try something a little higher. Perhaps the peak of the roof."

Kenshi's eyes widened. "Are you crazy? That's pretty high."

Tanso laughed. "Is the son of Bahamut scared of a 20 foot fall? That would barely injure a human; it wouldn't even tickle you."

Kenshi replied, "Maybe so but it's still scary."

"Then maybe you'll learn to fly if you jump off. You can't really lose anything."

Kenshi hesitated. Then he slid himself up the roof a little pulling his legs onto it. He stood up and walked to the peak of the roof. Tanso walked to the other side of the house to get a view. Kenshi walked to the edge of the house. "That's crazy man; I can't jump off of there."

Tanso yelled back up, "Sure you can. Just back up, relax, and start running."

Kenshi hesitated again and started backing up. He got a good distance from the edge and started taking deep breathes. He shook his head in discomfort. Finally he lowered his sight to the roof and started running. When he reached the edge, he saw his height and stumbled his last step. He started descending to the ground head first. He covered his head with his arms and closed his eyes. He lost his sense of time as he fell. After he thought he should've hit, he heard Tanso's distant voice exclaim, "Holy shit!"

Kenshi slowly opened his eyes and saw that he was twice as high as the house and ascending. He freaked out from the height and flew into the nearest tree holding on as if he would die if he fell.

Tanso laughed. "Who would believe that the prince of the dragons has acrophobia?"

Kenshi looked down and yelled with a shaky voice, "Shut up."

Tanso laughed again. "You'll never get used to flying in that tree."

Kenshi slowly released the tree and started floating upward slowly. He looked down at the tree and the ground. He floated a few feet above the tree for a second trying to get used to being this high. Finally he started floating away from the tree. Tanso observed curiously. Kenshi remarked, "Damn this is high."

Tanso shook his head. "Quit being a wuss. You're barely above the power lines."

Kenshi started flying around. Tanso yelled up, "Having fun up there?"

Kenshi slowly descended and landed beside him. "Well that was interesting. I'm curious, how much do you know about the whole centra thing?"

Tanso replied, "Well, I know what I've seen on TV and the stories I've heard."

Kenshi looked surprised. "They talk about us on the news?"

Tanso laughed. "Well duh. They show pictures of us too, particularly yourself. They try to warn people of us."

"But there are more good centra than just us right?"

"Of course, but most humans won't recognize that. They fear all of us."

Kenshi added, "Do they fear me?"

"Well for the most part they see you as a good guy but they still have an amount of fear even of you."

Kenshi sighed. "Well I've never really cared what people thought about me anyway."

"What about Leslie?"

"Of course I care what she thinks about me."

"But do you care about what others think about her?"

Kenshi paused a moment. "...Yes."

"Well they're making it look like you forced her to be with you."

Kenshi clenched his fist. "What?! Those fucking bastards..."

Tanso smiled. "She didn't even tell you. And she never left you. You're lucky."

Kenshi smiled also. "I know. So what do people know about me?"

"A lot. About your past life, including your parents, what you like to do, your music..."

Kenshi joked, "Wow, I'm famous."

"More than you know."

Kenshi turned serious again. "What do you know about Cain?"

"Well according to the stories, he was originally a good person. He had a girlfriend who he adored very much. But soon after he became a centra, another centra murdered his girlfriend. He went crazy and has made it his mission to track down and kill every other centra. And he has killed every centra he encountered except for you."

Kenshi blinked curiously. "Why didn't he try to kill me?"

"Well according to the people at the scene, he looked at your girlfriend's face just after his final attack. It's a theory that he saw the love between you two by the worry in her face and realized that you couldn't be the one that killed his girlfriend."

"But he didn't even engage the fight which I'm not proud to say."

Tanso continued explaining, "Cain isn't like that. He's very casual with the people he kills. He often has conversations with them beforehand. And he displays no emotion except for humor."

Kenshi replied, "I'll believe that. So what's the secret behind our powers?"

"Well as your spiritual father pointed out, we're the children of the gods. A few of us know which god gave us our power; Cain's power came from Tiamut and yours from Bahamut. But most of us still don't know. As for the specific powers... As you know, we start out with a light sword. The hilt seems to be like an extension of our body, we can make it disappear or reappear in our hand no matter where it happens to be. And the blade is an extension of our spiritual power. That's why the blade disappears when you lose physical contact with the hilt. And there are other powers we gain as we increase in experience, which you are familiar with all that I am. Plus some of us seem to have unique powers, like you have the power to heal others. Of course all of us have fast self-healing powers and very strong bodies."

Tanso quit speaking when he noticed that Kenshi was looking at something else. They both looked as another car entered the driveway. Kenshi recognized the car as belonging to Leslie's family. The car stopped at a fairly long distance from them. The passenger door opened and Leslie got out crying. She shut the door and the car took off in a hurry. Kenshi started walking toward Leslie and she ran to him. She pressed against him and wrapped her arms around him crying against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and looked down. "What's wrong?"

After a few seconds, she replied through her crying, "My parents and I got into a big fight. They don't like it that I go with you and they made me choose between being with you and living with them."

There was a brief silence except for her crying and then Kenshi stated, "But you're with me now."

Leslie responded, "That was my choice."

Kenshi found himself speechless and though he didn't like the situation, he couldn't help but smile at what she had said. After a minute, she started talking again. "But now I don't have a place to live."

Kenshi replied comfortingly, "Don't worry dear. Unless you refuse, you can live with me and I'll protect you."

Leslie finally pulled her head away from Kenshi's chest and looked into his eyes. "I never want to be away from you again."
