Kenshi laid in his bed sleeping peacefully. He has always been a light sleeper easily awakened by light noises. Tonight he was awakened by a very unfamiliar noise. He could hear leaves cracking outside and a strange mechanical noise. At first, he tried to just put it off. But when it really hit him, he realized that it was not something natural and was probably something he should check out.
Kenshi threw his blanket off of him and climbed to his feet beside his bed. He walked around his bed to the window. He lifted one of the blinds and peered out. His centra abilities gave him better vision than normal humans. What he saw stunned him in surprise. There were several army tanks in the yard with their turrets pointed toward his house. There were also several Jeeps and men with weapons. Kenshi sat motionless for a few seconds. Before he had time to gain his senses, one of the troops held up a megaphone to his mouth and started speaking. "Come out of the house Kenshi and don't try anything foolish."
Kenshi backed away from the window and started walking toward his door. He walked through it and traversed the living room to Leslie's room. But just before he got the chance to open it, Leslie opened it herself.
Kenshi spoke first. "The army is outside."
She replied. "I know, I heard them."
"You stay here, I'll go see what they want."
Leslie was worried, but agreed knowing there was no other choice. Kenshi turned and walked to the front door. When he reached it, he turned the knob and slowly pulled the door open. Through the glass window of the screen door, he saw the same group of military troops outside. He slowly opened the screen door and walked out onto the porch.
Kenshi yelled out, "What the hell is this all about?"
The man held up his megaphone and spoke again, "Step away from the house."
Kenshi laughed a little. He didn't feel threatened in the least by this group of people despite their large weapons but he figured that if they started firing, it might not be safe for Leslie being inside the house. He was also curious as to what they would do so he started walking to the edge of the porch. He hopped off of the edge and floated down to the ground. The men with guns held them up to be ready for an assault from Kenshi. Kenshi narrowed his eyes at this threat. He thought about destroying all of them but decided against the idea, partly because of his conscience but mainly because of Leslie. He decided to play with them instead.
Kenshi looked up at the man with the megaphone. "What do you want?"
The man held up the megaphone. "Lay on the ground with your hands behind your head."
Kenshi smiled for a moment. Then his humor started to be overcome with anger. He started to clench his fist. The man with the megaphone gave the signal to fire. One of the tanks to the side fired a shell from its turret. Kenshi saw the shell as it left the long cylindrical turret of the tank. He barely had time to move out of the way of its path. But before he could regain his composure, another one fired. He put his hand out to block the shot from his body. The shell exploded upon contact of his hand, knocking him back several yards.
There wasn't another fire for a moment. After Kenshi finished rolling backward, he jumped back up and held his arms near his chest. As the apparent leader with the megaphone gave the signal again to fire, Kenshi charged up a megaflare between his hands. He charged up enough energy just before the tanks fired their second rounds. Kenshi jumped up into the air and flew higher just as the two shells flew under his feet. The troops watched with a surprised look. When Kenshi was well above the others, he threw his megaflare down upon one of the tanks. It contacted and caused a large explosion. Kenshi was disappointed to see no apparent damage to the tank but the man inside lifted the hatch and ran out screaming.
Kenshi thought about what fun it would be to be in an army tank and flew down toward it. One of the man had started toward the tank but stopped once he saw Kenshi land on it. Kenshi jumped into the hatch and shut the lid. Most of the men dispersed into the woods. Kenshi turned the turret to face into the woods. He fired a shot high into the tree tops. It exploded catching some of the leaves and branches on fire. Kenshi felt more amused than he had in a long time.
Then his tank suffered a massive shock from an outside explosion, probably the other tank shooting him. Kenshi turned the turret of his tank around until it was pointed at the other tank. But before Kenshi managed to fire, the other tank did. The shock from the explosion caused Kenshi to hit his head on the metal interior of the tank.
Kenshi yelled, "Son of a bitch," out of anger. He hit the fire button after finding it and fired at the other tank. The other tank remained still momentarily. Kenshi was near firing another round when he saw the other tank backing away. He watched the other tank drive down the side of the highway before he decided to get out. He stuck his head out of the hatch first and looked around to make sure no one was still around. When he was satisfied that it was clear, he flew out of the tank and landed beside it. He walked happily back to the front door of his house.
As he entered, he expected to find Leslie there waiting for him. He didn't see her in the living room. He called out her name but received no response. He ran to her room and looked inside but didn't see anyone. He started to become frantic. He ran to his room to find no one there either. He ran through the kitchen to the utility room. He saw that the back door to the house had been beaten in. He came to the apparent conclusion that they had abducted Leslie as he was fighting.
Kenshi ran outside and flew into the air to try to get a view of where they could have gone but saw no traces of them. He flew along the highway where the tank had fled. He found the tank parked in the ditch. He looked in the hatch and found no one there. His angered poured out of him and he started glowing with energy and let out a powerful yell.
