October

Knowing nothing,
Asks for too much.
Alone crying,
Craving touch.

Stumbled on him,
For just a night.
The day was dim,
Was that a light?

Is that a smile?
Can it be feigned?
After these miles,
Through all this rain?

What if it's true?
What does it mean?
Just someone new,
Who will demean?

Just pain again,
A broken heart.
Nothing to gain,
Not a new start.

But then her fears,
Are sent aside.
Crying new tears,
A hope arrives.

Bringing her smiles,
Touching her heart.
Across the miles,
May a love start?

October came,
He was still there.
This wasn't a game
He was laying there

His voice steady,
Despite his drinks.
He is ready,
At least he thinks.

To her he says,
"I do love you"
Now she wonders,
Can it be true?

The timing, bad
The night, drunken
But now he had,
Three words spoken.

Her shocked heart skipped
She was stunned!
Her brain then quipped,
"It's just the Rum"

The utterance
Was quite sincere
This assurance
He made it clear

The words changed her
From that day on,
She was so sure
They would go on

On that one night,
Fear subsided.
She knows it's right.
Not one-sided

But fear comes back,
When she's alone
This cold attack
It chills her bones.

To cure this cold,
She must be told.
