KREG

HISTORY

Kreg was picked up and adopted by a herder's tribe when he was just a boy. The original tribe members had told that they came upon their village and it had been recently raided. He was in a corner of his hut and wielded a stone knife until he fathomed that these men were not the raiders. He wondered along the desert wastes and grew up with them until he became a very important member of the douar. The young dwarf would toil endlessly in any work to be done and his psionic skills were an added value to the douar.

He would employ his fighting skills to protect the tribe and use his uncanny ability to train animals. He was very kind to the animals even going to the extent of healing them whenever needed. A psionicist for many years, he has experienced a sort of transformation which has unnerved him. It was when the herd was attacked by a band of elves and everyone came about to fight off the long-legged runners. He went forward with his mount to fight as usual but was knocked down from his crodlu. Two elves were almost upon him and he had lost his bardiche amidst the fall. He lost control and when next he regained consciousness, he was on top of the dead elves with his tribesmen looking at him in awe and disgust. It was then that he tasted elven meat and his hand came back bloodied when he wiped his chin. The elves had been killed by claws and fangs of a great cat but none was near. He was told that he had transformed his hands and snout and went about swiping and biting the elves. Kreg has not slept well after this episode and fears that he will hurt someone next time since he had lost control of his senses.

APPEARANCE

Kreg is hairless as most dwarves; he is a bundle of 4'9" of muscle. A few wrinkles have started to show on his heavily tan skin. His skin has been burnt throughout all his years of running around in the desert sun. Although his face has started to wrinkle and sag a bit, his strong muscles are as tight as ever. He wears the usual loose clothing of the desert herders if any. He covers his body with a chitin studded vest and wears soft leather boots. His hands are heavily callused from handling staffs and weapons all his long life. He carries a 5' long bardiche with a bone blade at its end. This weapon is used to prod the herd along with its blunt end as well.

PERSONALITY

Kreg is a well natured dwarf with a smile on his face and a sarcastic joke at the tip of his tongue. He has lived for almost a full king's age and this has given him a special outlook on life. He has been with the herders for as long as he can remember living as peaceful and uneventful life as possible. His focus had been to excel as a crodlu herdsman and learn everything there was about these beasts. He had mastered riding the beast's as well notwithstanding his size and his tribemates' jokes with a persistence for the chore that only a dwarf can bring about. He now trains the crodlu for riding purposes since a trained mount brings a much higher price in the cities.

The dwarf is often sought out by other younger tribe members for council and he has become sort of like their grandfather to them. He has seen a whole generation of humans come and go in the tribe and has lived through many perils the tribe had. He is a strong warrior and defends the herd from any attack, be them from marauding humanoids or wild animals. He is confused about the recent happening and his strange transformations.

The following are some facts about the herdsman that Kreg currently lives amongst:

The douar consists of 8 families that have survived together in this group for the past 20 years. There are about 5 people per family, so the entire group is roughly 40 members strong. They are led by a preserver named So'ord, a smart and resourceful middle-aged man who has a knack for knowing just where fresh pasture will be found for the herds and how to use his magics to best avoid raiders and predators. They herd erdlus, about 13 per family, making the total herd slightly over 100. There are also a dozen crodlus, cared for and carefully trained by Kreg, a wise dwarven herder that has taken up residence with the douar and has proven his worth many times over. The crodlus are very valuable as beasts of burden and also as carefully trained war mounts, and are ferocious in combat when properly trained. Kreg provides integral defense for the douar with his crodlu herd. Life has been pretty stable for the past couple of years for the tribe. Each day brings new surprises as well as old challenges, and Kreg faithfully mans the lookout, mounted upon his favored crodlu, atop a high dune, surveying the herd as they pass through the barrens and wastes. With the wind at their backs and the dunes ahead, they know they are safe with their dwarven guardian watching over them.

The douar wanders within the Tyr-Urik-Altaruk triangle. Kreg is currently in the Great Alluvial Sand Wastes, on your way to Silver Spring for a little rest stop. On the map, that would be about 20 miles to the North-West of Silver Spring.
