KORETH HAREK

APPEARANCE:

Koreth is a tall youth in his early twenties/late teens with broad shoulders and well defined muscles. He has short, well groomed dark brown hair with lighter brownish red highlights underneath. His eyes are a pale blue that seem to grow darker when he is angered. He is well tanned with smooth skin and bears very few scars. Koreth has a warrior's stance and an arrogant confidence to him. He dresses in a light brown cloak that shows little in the way of wear, a pair of dark brownish red leather breeches, a blood red tunic and a pair of soft leather boots. He wears a scabbard at his side with a bone bastard sword hanging from it, a helm made from a boneclaw skull, a suit of scale armor made from bits of chitin, and often wears a pair of wrist razors.

PERSONALITY:

Koreth is the third son, fourth child of the Harek noble family of Tyr, and like his father and brothers he is arrogant, boastful, and hot tempered. He takes pride in his warrior skills, far more pride than he should. His manners are satisfactory, if not a little on the rough side. He does tend to have a rough tongue at times, and a harsh sense of humor. He will call those he looks down on a "whoreson," or a similar insult.

Koreth enjoys drinking and the other pleasures of nobility, which sometimes has lead him into trouble. He has a taste for the finer things, and is somewhat greedy. He is a loyal companion however, and once he forms a bond with another he will defend them to the end. The thing Koreth fears above all is failure. He cannot fail, he will not fail, he must win above all no matter the cost. He will take advantage of any trick or technique he can learn to improve his fighting prowess, or that will give him an advantage in battle or in life.

HISTORY:

Koreth is the third son, fourth child of the Harek noble family of Tyr. He was born in Tyr, by his father's second wife Tibia. His father, Dranik, like most other nobles cared little for his youngest son. He let his servants raise the boy, leaving him to 'nobler' pursuits. Koreth has two older brothers, Galen and Lynus, one older sister Lia, and one younger sister Jiri. Koreth, being the youngest son, had no chance of getting much from his inheritance. Galen was the firstborn, and his father's favorite son. He would become the Patriarch, and was taught such things as his father saw fit. Lynus was sent to aid his brother by learning the way, and was sent off to a psionic school at a young age. Lia became a templar, and was sent off a year later than Lynus. Koreth was left with little, his father planned for him to become Galen's master of arms. He studied under the tutelage of Crel, Harek's master-at-arms. Jiri was a rebellious girl, and ran away from home at the tender age of thirteen. She was intended to be a cleric of earth. One more cog in his father's plan.

Koreth lived most of his life in Tyr at the Harek compound. Galen tormented him as a boy, as their father didn't care. He found it very amusing, and has always treated Koreth as a little boy. Lia sometimes saved him from his brother's teasing, as she was fond of him. At lest until she was sent to marry Kalak and became a templar. Lynus cared little for him, and left him alone. Jiri stuck with him while he was still in the house, she followed him like a shadow because he would defend her from Galen. He was free to do as he pleased for the most part until his eighth year of age, that was when Crel took over his life. Crel was a harsh teacher and a good master-at-arms, having formerly been a slave soldier in the Nibanese army. He taught Koreth how to fight and more importantly how to win. Crel would not take failure, and was not above handing out brutal punishments. Dranik didn't look much into his son's progress, so Crel was free to mold the boy by any means he wished. Koreth spent ten years under his iron grip, suffering and learning the harsh realities of combat. Crel kept him from the rest of the family often during his training, and took him to a Harek outpost for the last two years. He had already learned to ride crodlu from living at home, but at the outpost he learned how to fight dirty, bargain, find his way in the desert, speak dwarven and to dice.

The outpost often traded with dwarves, as there was a dwarven village not far from it. While Koreth stayed there, he got along with the soldiers there and picked up many of his bad habits. It was there that he had his first hangover.

After Crel thought him fit, Koreth went back to Tyr and to his family. He was disappointed to find that Jiri had run away, and he looked for her for several months. His father allowed him to dip into the family coffers now that he was a man. He lavishly spent money, buying as much wine, women and song as his purse could hold, buying his friends and gambling. He spent several months at this, ever increasing in his decadence. At the height of his spending, he started a brawl in the Drunken Baazrag and ended up killing the son of a rival noble house and wrecking the place. His father ended up paying the bill for both bribes and to rebuild the tavern. This angered his father, and they got into a shouting match. Dranik, sick of his wayward son, sent him off on his own. "Make a man of yourself," he said "until then, you'll find no more of my coins in your purse." He could still visit, even get money if his father was gone, but his father considered him a failure and he was now on his own.
