Plot Summary

A space probe is heading towards the earth, emanating strange sounds towards the planet, and waiting for something. As the probe approaches earth, it starts to cause major storms on the planet and threaten its destruction. James T. Kirk, aboard the klingon bird of prey, after having saved Spock, was heading to earth. They listen to the strange sound and discover that it is actually the call of the humpback whale, which was extinct in the 23rd century. They have only one choice, to try to time travel back into the 20th century, look for a whale, and bring it back to 23rd century earth to reply to the probe and save the earth.
