Hatred by Muriel Moore

Hatred

Sparks fly;

Jealousy and anger ignite the kindling

of mistrust and old hurt.

The flame is set.

It burns, hot and hungry

Destroying all in the blaze.

Happy memories - like burning photographs,

Seared away to less than nothing.

Beloved artefacts; once bright,

now smoke damaged;

are also thrown onto the pyre.

Until, at last,

Love lies in ashes.

Yet the fires of hatred burn on.
