While Dr. Sinister Craven has degrees in a number of fields, he is primarily known for his work in Occultic Studies and Vampyrism. Analyzing vampyric types is more complicated than most people might think. "Just as there are many types of dogs, ranging from the toy poodle to the wolfhound, so there are many types of vampyrs," he said. "Not that I'm comparing vampyrs to dogs," he explained. "You could say the same thing about gems."

Perhaps his greatest contribution to the world of vampyric sciences was his translation, with Dwanzanian linguist and thaumatologist Dr. Toyalla, of the manuscript Einstrilibrum De Vampyr Histroika. The work, bound in a still unidentified type of leather, was long considered impossible to translate because of it's interwoven use of five major and several other languages, some of them obscure. For their work, which continued through several decades, they were awarded the prestigious Tsing Liu Award.

He assisted in researching The Necronomicon, and was instrumental in proving the so-called Borgonian Translation to be a fake.

The doctor is a professor emiritus of Miskatonic University, and is currently engaged in researching a previously unknown vampyric type. He welcomes those who believe they might be vampyrs or under vampyric influence to contact him as it will help both the client and his continuing research. So far, he has helped a number of the undead to properly classify themselves. "I knew one vampyr who avoided Italian food for decades because she thought the garlic would kill her," he said. "With just two consultations and a few simple tests, I found that she was of a type not affected by garlic at all. She went out and ate lasagna for a solid week," he laughed.

In addition to his other work, Dr. Craven is continuing studies in pre-20th century methodologies of biomedical engineering, and is an amateur chef and gourmet.
