Hungarian and German minorities of 8% and 2%, respectively. Serbo-Croats, Ukrainians,
Russians, Greeks, Turks, Gypsies, and Jews are smaller minorities.
Density: 95.7 inhabitants per sq.km.

Administrative Division: 40 counties and Bucharest municipality (with a county status),

The President of Romania is Emil Constantinescu, since 1996 and the Prime Minister is
Victor Ciorbea, also, since 1996.
Parliament: it is bi-cameral and is divided into the Senate and House of
Representatives. There are 143 senators who represent 42 countries.
- Language: Romanian is the official language, although Hungarian and German are
preserved by their communities and may be used as languages of instruction in school.
Romanian is spoken by about 23 million people in Romania, as
well as by the Romanians who have settled all over the world. Romanian is a Romance
language. Like Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian, Romanian derives primarily from
the Latin.
- Standard Time: East European zone time (GMT+2 hours). As of 1979, from the last Sunday in
April to the last Sunday in September, Daylight Saving Time (GMT+3 hours). Romania lies in
the same time zone with the Republic of Moldova, Finland, Greece, Israel, Egypt and the
Republic of South Africa.
- Currency: 1 leu (plural lei). The domestic convertibility of the leu was introduced
in November 1991.
