N710

    April 13th, 1994 (my first episode after arriving in Canada):

    EXCELLENT.

    A fully successful episode. Spot on. Very enjoyable.

    I was totally taken in, and I was genuinely surprised by the revelation.

Characters:

Data, his mum;

Geordi, Beverly;

Deanna, Picard.

    Data's reluctance to accept her and her story is surprising. His is so human sometimes.

    The relationship that develops between mother and son is extremely well written. And the episode makes a superb sequel to "The Offspring". The scene where Lal is shown is particularly great. I'm so happy that he told his mother about her.

    The viewer cannon help but be moved by the events of the story. You could see it as a mother and adopted son. Or just a typical mother and son. The scene where she misunderstands his meeting with Deanna was hilarious.

    From this episode we see that androids can very easily have emotions. This means that Data's goal is very possible. He can acquire emotions without Lore's chip.

    The ending is good. Did Data do the right thing? Is she better off not knowing? I don't know, maybe the episode is telling us that all that matters is believing something about yourself.

GRADE: A+
