WILDCORE ISSUE REVIEW:
WildCORE #2
Spoilers ahead!! If you haven't bought WildCORE #2 and want to enjoy it don't continue!
The opening scene starts off from where Issue #1 left off, with Zealot surrounded by D'rahn after finding out that Gant was in fact a Daemonite in disguise. It seems that she is stuck, but then Brawl suddenly gets up again and she see's her chance, she acts and flings an explosive device at the D'rahn and she and Brawl make their getaway, after Zealot concinces Brawl not to commit suicide by trying to take on the D'rahn alone.
Brawl leads them to the roof where they planned to take a chopper out but when they arrive there they meet WildCORE who had just haloed in from the drop ship. Zealot informs them that the base is overun and they could do nothing more but Backlash reiterates that their orders come from Giovanni and that they are supposed to extract the AE (Alien Entity) Nautilus and
any survivors. Brawl then cuts in saying that everyone has been killed and that Gant was in fact a Daemonite. This comes as a suprise to Backlash and Taboo, Ferrian now says that they must retrive the Nautilus as the D'rahn would go out and kill every one of the Kheran's on the list. Here Zealot tries to take control of the situation asking them to follow her orders which of course ignites a fight between her and Backlash, luckily, Taboo and Ferrian are at hand to control the situation.
Now, back to the D'rahn....Pildra is ordering Zenthrue to find Zealot when Syth comes up to her and says that if he were Alpha he would make her his queen and he would rebuild the empire. Pildra voices her doubt but suggests that if he wished he could try to challenge Typhon for the position as Alpha then she orders him to assist Zenthrue in his search. Zenthrue scoffs at the idea of Syth as Alpha as Pildra makes her way towards Typhon.
Typhon orders Gant to open access to the Behemoths network and also her inhabitants. Soon, Typhon has an entire army of Daemonites at his disposal at which he orders to dispatch the reserves to help in the search for Zealot. He then tells Haroth to upload the AE Nautilus disk into the Behemoths computer.
The scene then changes to the Daemonite scouts that were sent out to find Zealot. Instead the find Taboo, seemingly lost and 'helpless'. The Daemonites round the corner where they meet Ferrian and Brawl as well as Taboo. Between the three of them they easily finish the task. Taboo suddenly realises that the Daemonites are aiding the D'rahn
and she thinks that they are allied. Ferrian points out that the Daemonites far from being allies are instead slaves of the D'rahn. Brawl wonders whether the plan would work. Optimistically Ferrian says "What could go wrong?" (My Comment: Famous last words? -grin-)
The other half of WildCORE are at the mainframe where Zealot is patching throught to the Behemoths network in order to let the PSI hackers to plant a virus which would erase the information in the AE Nautilus. Vigor is as usual being annoying with his smart remarks at which Backlash puts him into guard duty.
At this point Zealot's hearing pick something up, namely Daemonite scouts which are of course easily dealt with. But following close behind the scouts are more Daemonites and Syth. (Virus status at 87% at this point). In the following melee Styrian is struck down by Syth and Backlash orders Vigor and Styrian to withdraw while he and Zealot finish up. The virus is at 98% before Syth notices what their objective is and blows up the mainframe.
Backlash and Zealot get thrown by the blast but land on their feet. They take cover behind an over-turned table where Marc comms Amanda for back-up. Zealot meanwhile is trying to figure out a Daemonite-designed weapon she picked up along the way during the blast. Syth discovers them and Zealots weapon has little affect on him, but no matter, backup just arrived in the form of Brawl and Ferrian. "Come with me if you want to live" says Brawl, "Don't start," says Ferrian. In anger Syth decides to light more fireworks and blows up the room. WildCORE then makes their way back to their ship.
So the Behemoth gets away and WildCORE return to Dept PSI alive to fight another day. Back at PSI Marc and Amanda are greeted by an enthusiastic Jodi. Here Giovanni gives them the bad news that there were still 10 names left on the disk. Brawl asks to join WildCORE and Backlash recruits him saying that he hopes that he knows wahat he's getting himself into. Ferrian suggests that they inform Majestic and the other Kheran nobles. Backlash agrees and ask for haste as innocent lives are at stake.
At the Blackfoot Ranch in Oregon....Guy Blackfoot, a Kherubim finds out on the news about the destruction at Norfolk and when he see's an artist rendition of the D'rahn all he says is "All is lost."
End. Fini.
My Comments/Notes: Although this issue seemed a bit rushed at times it was a decent issue, the artwork was top and the background story was sufficient. The pacing was a bit fast for my liking tho', it was one of those stories where at the end you 'Thats it?'. Well, here's to Issue #3!
D'ya have a thought for Issue #2? Comments? Complaints? Send 'em to me and I'll see whether I can put it up here. Mail me.
