The Bran Castle

Bran Castle was built by Mircea The Old in the early 14th century to defend the country against the Ottoman Empire. The castle is strategically placed in a mountain pass between two high 8000 feet (2400 meters) mountains. Mircea was the father of Vlad Tepes, also known as Dracula. This castle is also known as the Dracula Castle.

The castle looks more like a palace than a castle because it later became a royal palace for Queen Elizabeta of Romania, and it was renovated accordingly. It is now state owned.
