I saw Star Trek II the other night on TV, and, despite commercial interruptions, I remembered that it's probably my favorite of the bunch. Generations pales in comparison; after the epic scope of II, you realize just what it means when people say that Generations is "just a long episode of Next Gen." It also reminded me that Kirk deserves a much better death, and that death scenes in Star Trek movies can be really moving (sure, they brought Spock back, but it was a really good death sequence anyway. It actually did justice to the character.) One thing I noticed that I hadn't noticed before is the music. Wrath of Khan has, as far as I remember, the most manipulative soundtrack of any movie I've ever seen. It's almost funny at times; when the scene is happy, the music bursts with joy. When it's supposed to be scary, the music becomes overwhelmingly ominous. It demonstrates how manipulative soundtracks can be: it clearly informs you of how you should respond to every scene. In a way, this is really annoying. But it's still a fun movie. ================================================================================ >:::The following added 1995/09/12 00:45 by KBUTLER >:: WINNIE THE POOH A BEAR OF VERY LITTLE BRAIN I agree, by far the best Trek film.
