First encountered by USS Voyager in 2373, after recieving a distress call from Garan miners. Arriving three hours later, Voyager beamed down its holographic medical doctor, who found the Garans to be suffering from an advanced viral infection. After discovering a form of a macrovirus, the Doctor was forced to return to Voyager in order to continue studying the strange virus. The virus managed to escape Medical through Voyager's ventilation and began infecting the crew. The Doctor would later develop a synthetic antigen for macrovirus, and with the help of Captain Janeway they were able to 'disinfect' Voyager and the Garan mine.
