A Marine Reconnaissance Unit consists of twelve highly specialized marines. These marines are in turn further cross trained in another team members field of expertise. Thus the Recon Marine has a greater number of combat and non-combat related skill to draw upon.
The Special Warfare School is the most highly selective combat school in the Klingon Empire. Candidates are selected from those marines who show a high degree of intelligence and physical stamina, as well as a great deal of cunning and combat ability. The Special Warfare School teaches a marine a vast array of skills, ranging from assassination and sabotage to starship piloting and interstellar navagation. The highly independant nature of the Marine Recon mission, requires a marine that is capable of a wide array of tasks.
Skill lessons are broken up into specialization catagories. The first, is the individual marines primary military occupational speciality. Normally infantry or combat enngineer, but a number of pilots and tankers have attended the school. The second skill group is a naval equivalent speciality. Ranging from vessel engineering, helmsmanship, weaponry, etc. taught by naval specialists, although the vessel training is limited to B'rel scouts and Planetary Assault Vehicles. The Special Warfare School and the Marine Aeronautics School are the only marine schools to enlist naval instructors.
The third skill group is the Reconnaissance Speciality. This skill ranges from weapon master to demolitions to intelligence gathering. Officers are further subjected to an advanced officer school.
The Special Warfare School is also famed for its grueling physical tests. Non-classified examples are forced marches, little of any sleep and food, and pit-fighting. During pit-fighting instructors often instruct candidates to fight one another and not to stop until ordered. Often this can last for twelve or more hours, and any that tire or are knocked out or are otherwise unable to continue fighting are removed from the course. After graduation from the school, the Recon Mairne are hard-core enough to make most other marines look dull in comparision.
Often later assigned to a B'rel, Bird of Prey class ship, and patrol the Imperial Borders as a scout craft until otherwise assigned by Marine Command.
Typical ships assignments: Mission Commander:The senior officer of the vessel. In full command of the entire crew and marine force. Executive Officer: Commands the Marine Recon and all other Marine Units assigned to the Recon Unit. Crew Chief:Commands the Recon Crew portion of the Unit, and is responsible for all ships operations. Also is responsible for Intelligence gathering. Security Chief:The senior NCO of the Unit. Responsible for the safety of the entire Recon Unit and also functions as the Operations Officer. Engineering Chief:A Combat Engineer dually trained to maintian vessel systems. Chief Helmsman: A Marine Pilot further trained in Starship Helm Operation. Weapons Chief:A Recon Weapons NCO trained in Vessel Weaponry Operations. Chief Medic: A Highly trained Medical Officer
The remaining four serve as Junior Engineer, Junior Weapons Marine, Junior Helmsman and Junior Medic.
