Magician's Gambit

By David Eddings
Summary by SPark
Still on the trail of Zedar, the renegade mage Garion and his companions head for the vale of Aldur, the place that his grandfather, Belgarath and his aunt, Polgara, call home. But to reach it, they must travel through the land of the Marags where prospectors risk insanity for a chance of wealth and the bereaved god Mara mourns eternally for his lost children. And that is only the beginning. They also must brave the mountains that border on the lands of the Angaracks, the traditional enemies of Garion's Alorn people. Not only are their Angarack enemies following them, but the mountains themselves are filled with dangers, from horrible monsters to the approaching winter storms.
Along the way, Garion begins to learn more about his past and about his new-found sorcerous powers. He is beginning to understand his part in the world shaking events that the prophecies say are coming.
