The third book in this series is more of the good things that have gone before. If you aren't hooked by this time, then you never will be. Some really intense events happen here. This is also where you get a little more on the nature of magic and of gods in Eddings' fascinating world. Though in Queen of Sorcery we have out first direct encounter with deity, Issa is not a major player, cosmicly speaking. Here though you meet Aldur, whose disciples include Blegarath and his sorcerous brethren.

And, of course, all that has been said before about writing style applies here too. Eddings just keeps on writing with the same excellence he's shown in his other books. And though this book can't stand alone, you'll definitely want to read it after reading Queen of Sorcery.
