Anyone who has read the Belgariad will enjoy the second series even more. Though in many cases such sequels are added just for additional profit and aren't as good as the earlier works, that is by no means the case here. In fact the Mallorean is just as good, if not even better, and Guardians of the West gets the series off to a fast start. Even those who haven't read the previous series can still enjoy these books, but to the long time fan the second series is a special treat. You get to find out the answer to the question of "what happens next?"

Of course one often imagines the heroes of the story living happily ever after, but it's so much more interesting to read about more struggles. And all of the excellent elements of Eddings' previos works can be found here too. From the intricate histories to the colorful characters to that marvelous dash of humor, every word is well worth reading.
